I have the Datatool S4-C1 'Red' alarm fitted - no problems so far....I was told the Ducati one wasn't much cop. Don't think I would have one if I got a new bike, tracker would be nice...
Alarms are a pain in the arse i have a Road Angel Tracker fitted great bit of kit lets you know by text if anything is happening with your pride and joy.
On all the bikes I have owned its been the alarm that has let me down or stranded at the side of a road. Never have one fitted now and found it makes little difference on the insurance. Big chains and good locks.
That BikeTrac looks the better option and it has good fetaures, does it come with a fob or key card? or nothing!
Tried that with one of my other bikes. decided to stop taking the dog with me as he leans the wrong way going round corners.
Comes with a bit of paperwork, that's it. You just register , enter your details and hopefully you never have to use it ! You can also set it to track the route you've done on your bike and map it out ! seems a good piece of kit and you get money off insurance as well I think !

I disagree with most opinions about alarms BUT I am not in the UK. I find an alarm useful and helps deter casual thieves and joyriders. I have had a Scorpio SRi 900 alarm that has an RF pager. I fitted it with the ultrasonic sensor that detects if someone sits on the bike. I fitted it with no problems with the CANBUS at all. It has been on there for more than 2 years and has had zero problems. The RF pager has quite a range and the entire system seems to have little or no effect on battery life. The pager is small and needs to be charged about every 4 weeks. This gives me the opportunity to go and have "a discussion with a cricket bat" with anyone interfering with my bike. The system fits under the seat well. I took power for the unit directly from the battery via a Touratech TPS15 and used the GPS power feed as the "key on power" feed. The only unusual thing I did was NOT fit the wiring to fire the indicators when the alarm sounds. I thought this may upset the CANBUS so I fitted a small LED unit used as a numberplate light form off-road bikes that flashes with an alarm tweet when the alarm arms and flashes when the alarm goes off. I also did not wire up the immobiliser circuit as the bike has a very capable system built in. Having said all that, next time I will use a Scorpio SRi 1100 that has the alarm features with full tracking information sent to your mobile phone. In this case I would mount it under a sidecover where it is less obvious to professional thieves. I am sure that we do not have the same level of theft down here as the UK (strange given that we were settled by many UK convicts) but I still feel a good alarm, the steering lock and a good cable lock when parking in dodgy areas can only help.
Really not worth the effort having an alarm/tracker/lock etc (as far as insurance is concerned). Personally I have the Almax 4 chain and big EFF Off lock, not declared on insurance just in case I forget to put it on. Guaranteed If I declared it, received my £5.00 discount and then forgot to put it on I would have a fight on my hands to get them to pay up.
Ihave the Ducati alarm and Datatool tracker,Not had a problem so far. Tried a big dog but the stupid thing kept falling off !!
Had my last bike nicked... Every bike from here on in is getting a tracker, no doubt in my mind. Why quibble of £90 a year. You probably spend that on in app purchases at FarmVille FFS
Alarms are a complete bag of shite IMHO. Everyone I've had has caused problems and been consigned to the bin, despite being fitted by approved fitters. They seem to work ok for a year or two then give up the ghost. Tried Datafool, Meta and some other brand though the name escapes me. A mate of mine runs a European touring business and rates alarms as the biggest cause of breakdowns (punctures come second) for his customers over the last 15+ years. When away from home I use the smallest/thinest (12mm I think) Almax chain cut to the exact length to go round mine and my mates wheels very tightly. This way the chain is light enough to be portable and doesn't lie on the ground giving thieves more leverage. Plus an Abus Granite disc look on the other wheel. Though of course if the thieves really want it they'll cut through anything.
Hi, I have Datatool Veto Evo fitted to mine. I want to remove it but need some help in the wiring dept. As has been said, Datatool not wanting to help me out without a massive fee. I can remove it, but getting it back to stock wiring is the problem. I dont have a decent wiring diagram or instructions. Now if I had fitting instructions maybe i could reverse engineer it.
Warned by Riders Cardiff about fitting a tracker, tracker evidence could be used in the event of an incident. Now this could be a good or bad thing. I also don't think the reduction in insurance premium is greater than the yearly subscription, but saying that should you make a claim does your premium go up even with protected no claims ?
Get a secondhand wiring loom for your bike, junk the old on including the alarm, and fit the new one. You can't go wrong, all the plugs are different shapes and sizes and it's blatantly obvious where they go. Honestly, I spent hours and hours trying to sort the alarm on my Suzuki, then got a loom and had the job done from start to finish inside of a couple of hours.
