Always thought the T595 was a stonking bike although apparently they can be quite heavy on servicing requirements. Must be in yellow as well.
I ran a caspian blue 955i (the later angular version) for around 6 years - comfy, quick ((147bhp) and turbine smooth. Toured all over Europe - never missed a beat. I think the valve clearance check can be pricey if you take it to a Triumph dealer.....do it yourself or specialist is cheaper option. Every 12k.....but they often don't need any shims.
Wow amazing insight off people who know what they are on about ( I’m not crawling ) yes it’s really interesting what’s available once I started looking about , I’m leaning towards an early r1 pre 2001 sort of 20 odd to 30 odd thousand miles , I missed out on a blue one at 1750 other day but my pal says you want red and white blue ones don’t go , also saw a zx12r which didn’t look bad 20000 miles 2000 and odd
buy a bike that you will enjoy rather than for the investment potential the price bubble of classic vehicles could burst very quickly when interest rates rise and the investors leave the market in search of more lucrative returns That aside my Ducati 900ssie has doubled in value the last couple of years and yes I do enjoy riding it
The early R1s are great bikes if you’re looking for a bike that you’ll still be able to enjoy as well. The 5JJ (2000 - 2002) is a great bike and a better bike to ride than the 4XV (98-99) and better value for money. The 99 R1 in red/White/Black is starting to increase in value now with the 98 white/red bikes reaching silly prices for good examples. Only my opinion obviously but for a jap bike of that era then I don’t think there’s a better bike
Thanks for your help on this I did take the advice on here and I’ve bought a 2000 r1 on carbs , lowish mileage and one owner from new so that’s what I went for ,red white and black it is , I’ll fire a few pics up when I get home , amazing all the different types available , my wish list was I liked the Honda SP1 and sp2 but nowadays the price of them has really gone up so out of my ballpark, fire blades of the late 90s early 2000s were but I just wasn’t keen on the style for some reason but the early r1 just was it and you can still chance across them at sensible money, first gen hayabusa was another one I was considering but well pleased with the r1
These in this specific colour are on there way up if you look at others https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB...023855?hash=item441b9c996f:g:vTwAAOSwZshazzk9 or possibly a tl1000?
Honestly, I don't think it's do-able to get anything remotely collectable for £2k.. Availability drives down prices, and so you are looking for a bike where the market was totally swamped or the bike was a lemon and has since been seen as more of a rough diamond. For example, the TL1000R, you could get really clean ones for £2k then a few mags started doing reviews on cheap buys, then PB (I think it was) bought a do up one and spent a load of cash turning it into a 899 beater and promoted them in a good lite. Honestly though I think you need more like £4k to get something that will be rare enough that it will go up, and I don't think Japan is the origin to go for. I spent £4k on my RGV because it's a VJ23 and there are maybe 10 in country; also I bought it from my best friend who had it from new, I spent £2k on it and think it's probably worth at least £8k now, which is silly but immaculate ones recently sold for £12k. The bike I would buy honestly, is a Tornado 900; because most have had recalls and weak spots fixed, and they are quite good, and they are super cheap and super rare.
Ah yes! I tried to get one of those for mine, hilariously unobtainable now. I was looking at your pic on my phone... I see now! (Y)
Here it is , just going to give it a run , it’s got the scorpion end can which is remarkably quiet on tickover
I had a '98 R1 and it was proper fast for an old girl, it's done about high 30's mileage wise now , mostly used now by Francis Williamson as an MSV instructor but still going strong . I did a 10.68 at 139 Mph 1/4 mile on it , which considering its 20 years old now , isn't too shabby.
