I remember your 750SS from Motorcycle Sport days and wondered if you regretted selling it for a Pantah. Guess the answer to that would be yes....
Only hypothetically. I got my money's worth out of that bike several times over, and still sold it for more than I paid for it so I have no complaints. The fact that something I sold decades ago is now worth a lot more is neither here nor there. Have you ever sold a house? How much for? And what is that house worth now? Incidentally, I didn't sell the greenframe until years after I had bought the Pantah - I ran both for a while.
We like Birthday presentsI was running around in a mars red 1800cc golf GTI mk1 when i was nineteen as not allowed a motorcycle
https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24494/lot/371/ Judging by the photos, it is the genuine article. But £106K is a lot to pay for a pile of scrap which will need another £20K spending on it.
Even my old Lambretta GP200 would hit £10k+ (twas an orig AF Rayspeed 250 X Type) sold for £900 to a guy from Nuremberg in 1990. Although I still have its original Bultaco piston as a memento for when I didnt put a new small end circlip in.
Yes, over the years I've owned the very first pre-production 1978 black and gold 900SS, a 1937 garden gate Manx 500 and 3 BSA Gold Stars, a ZB32 Clubman, a DB34 Tourer (the only genuine one in the UK) and a DBD34 Clubman and various other bikes that would be worth a bob or two now but at the time each of them was usually sold to finance the next bike.
