hi, so the 1299 came out of hibernation today, went a wee run, good to blow out the cobwebs, however, I noticed that i got a few ‘FALSE’ gear shifts initially going up but put it down to not being used for about 6 months, if kind out sorted its self out, but not 5th gear, seems to be not engaging properly going up and down, i had to quickly use the clutch to select. Do i just need to get another few miles to sort it, or have i developed a problem, up to going away for the winter in November it was fine. Is there some kind of reset? Looking forward to your thoughts
It’s a very common problem. Mine goes in tomorrow for the quick shifter to be replaced. They’re also taking a look (scratching their heads) at the clutch problem again!!!
Can I ask what your symptoms were to get your quickshifter replaced? I get quite a few false neutrals which I've never had with any other bike. I mentioned it to my dealer but they fobbed me off saying the gearbox wasn't very good!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’ve had five Ducati’s now and NEVER had a false neutral. Just be firm and boot it when you change gears.
Morning, Initially as you reported missed neutrals, 2>3 and 4>5; particularly when accelerating fast. I also had engine cutting out and really rough running...QS cuts ignition and it was causing this. Finally errors up on the dash that won’t clear. Switch QS off and errors still come up. I reported the early symptoms over 2 years ago....it’s taken this long to catch the fault on diagnostics!! I also have an on going clutch problem that’s been evident from approximately 4 weeks in from new! Hope this helps.
I've seen you say that a few times but as I said I've never experienced this on any other bike. I've had quickshifters on my bikes for the last 4 years and not once had a problem. There seems to be at least 2 people above who have had their quickshifters changed under warranty. Surely Ducati wouldn't be changing them just to keep people happy? Whilst I respect your opinion, just because you've never experienced the problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist!
Well if you’re not happy and think it’s a genuine problem then take it back to the dealer and get them to sort it out.
Apologies if I came across as argumentative! I've given the same advice as you to a friend with a Zx10 who was having problems with his quickshifter so I know you need to be firm with the changes. I did a euro trip last year and the quickshifter shut down in heavy rain bringing up a warning message on the dash. It sorted itself out I thought but I still get quite a few false neutrals. I mentioned it to the dealer who fobbed me off so wanted to see what other people's thoughts were. It's quite unpleasant when it happens as it's usually at higher speeds.
El Toro, “Just be firm boot it in”, so there the thing, because i was having the problem, i have tried various methods, all seem to work at different times, going up, just a light tap, it changes, give it a firm tap, it changes, going down, the light tap and firm tap also giving it a push, all seems to change. So not really sure what to use. Going down i dont always get the auto blip So im really unsure. My first Ducati, although my BMW s1000rr had quickshift.
I got false neutrals on my 1299 until I changed the rearsets for some that reduced the throw distance on the lever. OEM rearsets - 35mm, CNC Racing -20mm. Don't think I've had one since. My quick-shifter still works too!
