I think I've solved my own screen issues with a lower screen. I bought the Puig sport screen, set as low as possible, sends the wind onto my shoulders and not into my face, flutter free riding. I'm 5 foot ten. Chatting to another owner yesterday, he's having major buffeting because he is using the original screen on some aftermarket frame. He reckoned it was like someone drumming their fingers on the back of his helmet at any speed above 10 mph. I tried mine with no screen on, obviously windy but no flutter, the same as riding a naked bike I guess, that helped me decide on a low screen.
That exactly what I did. I found at 'fast' speeds the buffering became so bad it began to blur my vision. You'd think by now the manufacturers would have this old problem sorted out
Yep, me too, Puig dark on the Multi, no buffeting at all for me (am 5'11") and can sit nicely at a ton+ all day without too much discomfort.
There's another factor to the screen drama, having the wife on the back. With a passenger it seems to change things, at motorway speeds i experienced a weave to my head, as if someone was turning my head from side to side. I can only assume with a passenger it must alter the airflow. She had minor buffeting, so I've cut down the original screen 40mm lower than the sport screen to see what effect that has on single and pillion riding. I'll keep you posted
All day. You brute. I can only manage an hr. at a quarter ton. Took the Puig touring screen off as it was worse than standard. Speaking to a guy at Seaways & he reckons you are better off with the short PP screen, but not tried it.
Different screens suit different folk Steve, I tried the pp and couldn't get on with it. PS, mines not the Puig touring, but the Puig short one in the pic above.
The shorter screen works, I'm going to shape it more, try taking the top corners off so its a bit more pointed. Once I've got it right I'll cut the black puig to the same shape. Short is the future
Just on the off-chance, have any of you noticed any change in the rate of fuel-consumption with the smaller screen? Around 160Kph, mine gets pretty bad, and gets worse quickly. I've put this down to the barn-door aerodynamics, and have started wondering whether a smaller screen would make the problem better or worse.
Tried the touring screen, worse if anything – now happy with a Givi faux carbon shorty. Looks good too imo.
Looks good Wayne. What about those winglets. I know they were available for the pre DVT but could not find any info on DVT model.
