1200 Mts1200s 2012 Complete Electrical Failure

    I have posted about this issue before but have had a few personal issues but now back on it.

    I cant find my previous posts so here's the story.

    last year sometime I had a new instrument panel installed as the neutral light would sometimes come on dimly. No problem at all with the bike.

    That is until about after about 700 miles.

    The last thing I did was go for a bike ride, wash the bike and put in the garage.

    I put a ctek charger on to look after the battery.

    At around new years day I decided to go for a ride, first I tried the key fob which didn't do anything. I then pressed the override button so I could enter a pin - presuming the keyfob battery was faulty. Still nothing.

    I checked the battery - 12.8v so thats fine.

    I then checked all the fuses by removing and inspecting and testing with a dvm - all good.

    This last week I have removed the kill switch and cleaned it out with contact cleaner. put it back together, nothing, still no response.

    I disconnected the battery left for 10 mins or so then reconnected and noticed that the instrument panel flashed white, I pressed the button, first it complained about the lock the the 'red switch' error. I switched the switch on/off a few times, tried again with the same result. tried again then nothing[​IMG][​IMG][​IMG][​IMG]

    I am really hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I really dont want to send to the dealers as I can see this costing a lot of money to fix. I have taken all the fairings off to check the connectors as far as I can - next step is to remove the fuel tank and look under there in case there is a poor connection.

    the only thing I can find is that the serial number of the new clock is 13 [​IMG]
     
  2. Check the handsfree relay on left side of tank (where fuses are) as they are open to elements there Screen Shot 2018-04-25 at 21.19.50.png

  3. would that affect the override button - I will certainly start looking at the relays - good call

  6. I recently went to start mine after it had been unused for a while. It had been on trickle charge so bike battery was good but nothing doing. I seem to recall replacing the remote battery a year ago so thought it should be ok.
    Then I remembered that if the remote battery dies, the remote still works like the passive red key does and if you hold the main remote right next to the dash (where the antenna is housed) then it should activate the system. Sure enough it came to life and I could start it.
    Rode around for the day and every time I turned the bike off I had to take the remote out of my pocket and do the same thing to get going again.
    Later, I took the remote apart and moved the battery slightly in it's clasp. - Cured!
    Poor battery connection in the remote was the cause.

    You had a new dash fitted ages ago and it worked fine for a good amount of time so I'd doubt this has anything to do with your problem. Like mine, it wasn't used for a while so could my problem be your problem too?
    Try using the red key.
     
  7. hmnn no joy. I will try and post a video up of whats happening.
    All three relays at the front are in good condition, contacts clean, doesnt look like I can ride up to get you a beer bolds.

    the override button overrides the keyfob, the problem is not the keyfob but thanks for the info wrecked
     
  8. it is also worth bypassing the handsfree relay to see if you get power up

  10. finally gave up as there volts here and there but I couldn't make any sense of what was going on.
    I took it to the ducati dealership bike shop - from where I bought it.

    they cant say for sure whats wrong, they think it might be the handsfree, would I like to buy one for £510 to try - no promises that it will fix the fault tho.

    isn't there any way to check the hands free system?
     
  11. Poor dealer diagnosis if that’s what they are telling you, they should be able to use there plug in diagnostic to pin point the fault and give you a more accurate diagnosis and fault solution

    I wouldn’t agree to buy anything and a whim it may fix it....?!
     
  12. The dim lighting of the Neutral etc is water ingress on the multipin connector of the back of the LCD display.
    It would be worth getting to that and wd40 the contacts on the connector.... it's an arse to get to.
     
  13. they are saying that they cannot plug the diagnostics in as they cant power it up through the system:mad::mad::mad::mad:

  16. My handsfree relay gave up in the midst of a rainstorm. Same symptoms. I note you've looked at it, but have you changed it over? Mine tested ok on the bench, contacts looked clean. But the Multi came to life after I changed the relay.
    Just checking whether you've changed it...
     
  17. the bike is still at the bike shop. They did manage to override the handsfree by shorting out the relay and managed to diagnose that the fault is the handsfree.
    next step - buy a handsfree for £510 for them to program/install.
    all in all this is likely to cost far to much money considering they charge something like £88 an hour!!
    I will report the conclusion when I get the bike back.
