Until last weekend I was the lucky owner of a 748 SPS. I’ve owned it for 10 years, and is the second owner. It have allways been taken well care of and have a full service history. I had it stored for the winter in a container. Next to the container a parked van caught fire, and after a while the windows in the container cracked and the wooden frames caught fire. A piece of it then felt over my bike, and the protection cover caught fire. I don’nt know for how long it has burnt before the fire brigade showed up and extinguished the fire. In other words, the fire did not start in the bike itself. I’m not allowed to touch the bike before the police and insurance company have carried out their investigation. The insurance company will ship IT to a Ducati dealer to get their verdict of what the repair cost will be. If it’s to high, they will scrap it. If nothing major is damaged, I’m willing to buy used parts, and use the time to get it back in original shape. I guess the most expensive parts are all the plastic parts/fairing. As a temporary solution, a complete faring kit with correct colors and sticers van be bought from china for abt. 350 pounds. Is there any hope ?
Mate I'm so sorry for what's happened to you. That's such bad luck and I know that's a massive understatement. I hope it all gets sorted and fingers crossed for you!
Bummer. Sorry to see and hear of your misfortune - very bad luck indeed. I feel sure that it can be repaired but it will require a massive strip down as the wiring may be damaged and many plastic and rubber parts effected by the heat. Personally....I wouldn’t.
Definitely a write off in my opinion so if you buy it back and do it up it'll still be written of on the log book, no matter what category write off. What a shame. Steve
There is no chance on earth that that will not get written off. You will be able to buy the wreck and probably for a very small amount, but, why would you? To get it back into a presentable and rideable condition would require( I'm stating the obvious i know) the replacement of just about everything.
Wow, such a shame. BUt if it was mine I'd want to keep hold of it. Once the plastics and other damaged stuff is off i would suspect there'd still be something worth keeping even to build back as a track bike.
Believe or not, but this one showed up, and can be mine. It have barely been ridden the last couple of years, since the owner became a dad to twins, puuuuh. It will need new timingbelts and a main service, an a new pair of «shoes». The windscreen will be replaced by the first possible occation. I’m aware of the tail, the original was damaged. But fitted one can be fixed. I’m curious about the decals, the bike is presented as MY 2000. Are they correct ? Here’s a screenshot from Norwegian authoroty for vehicle registration. (for some reason, the pics enda on top of the post) I guess the meaning of «Understellsnummer» dont need any translation... Does the tail on MY 2000 have the same decals as my burnt MY 98 748 SPS ? It simply said Ducati 748 SPS.
i sometimes think that era bike had Decals applied on a whim my 98 SPS had a small decal along the bottom of the seat saying "Ducati 748sps" there was nothing on the tank and just Ducati at the top of the side panel
Hi. I did some Research, and found this : https://www.odd-bike.com/2013/02/ducati-916-spsps-ultimate-desmoquattro_18.html Even if it's about the 916 SPS, the MY98 in the article has the same type and locations of the decals as my MY98 748 SPS had. Further Down in the article 99 and 00 models are shown, they have the same kind of labels on the side fairings as the one I intend to buy.
I thought the SPS's looked like the SP's As its a 2000 bike it is possible that Ducati just put whatever they had left on it as the 748 S and R were out. Which would explain the wrong decals. What cans are on it? there are no logos on them. Also, those brake caliber bolts don't look too good. I had to drill the bolts out on my 748 when I got it.
There were no logos on the cans delivered with the 748 SPS’s. The one that burnt did’nt have, and in another thread it was mentioned AS well.
