Guys, I'm weighing up a Tricolore 1098s vs a 959 and for the money leaning to the newer model for my needs. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2016 model 959 (completely stock) for £10,000 however the service history is concerning me as follows; Date of 1st reg = 03/06/2016 1st service completed sometime in 2016 @500miles by 1st owner (yet to be confirmed exactly when) Second owner purchased in June 2017 Current mileage is 2380 with no service between the 1st service and now I know there are no belts to worry about and the seller is trying his best to convince me that his policy is every 2 or 3 years (sheesh!) Am I right in thinking a service has been missed and therefore should I avoid? Thanks for your advice Bubble If it sounds to good to be true...
It should be done every year officially but if it’s only done 1800 miles since it’s run in service it wouldn’t worry me too much Just get it serviced before you pick it up as part of the deal
£10k for a 2016 bike with no service history isn’t cheap. Look around and you’ll find better examples for similar money. Go on auto trader now and there are 7 for less than £11k. I bought an unregistered zero miles bike for £12k.... so why take the chance?!
@Jolley where did you buy if I may ask, my local Ducati dealership in Peterborough are the most cocksure overpriced individuals i've come across..salesman tried to get me to buy an 899 and when I said I'd really like a 959 please he said to me "why what do you think the differences are!" I replied you're the salesman shouldn't you be telling me "I was just checking to see if you knew your stuff" he said...
You won’t be buying from them then?! Ducati Aylesbury. Strictly speaking it was a cancelled order, yet they could have put it in the showroom at rrp because it was unregistered. However, they chose to advertise it at £11,995.
Just to add, the warranty has expired and from experience, the lack of the annual servicing will have an effect on any good will you might get in the event of problems. As an aside to mind mind the first annual service oil change is more important than than subsequent ones on a low mileage bike. The 600 mile service gets rid of the oil from the factory and the subsequent re fill flushes the system. Good to get shot of that at the first annual IMO. Andy
Agreed.... certainly helped me avoid a £10k engine rebuild on my 1299S. It is the first gong Ducati UK ask for.
Avoid, I bought a car from one of their franchises a while ago, terrible after sales service. I`ll happily go and test their demos, & drink their coffee but would never buy from that group again.
Lots I know buy from Aylesbury, then go elsewhere for servicing. No personal experience so no idea why. But they do like a deal on a bike and have lots of stock
Close links with Ducati UK who are just up the road in Silverstone. So a lot travel to get a bike there, but too far for them to go service (which is also very busy). Have no complaints about the servicing they have done on my past 4 bikes. Back to the original question.... I would consider it.... at about £8k.
