No, not drinking, but cleaning. Never sure which is the right or best stuff to buy so that I can ensure surfaces are clean and ready for stickers, applying sticky pads etc to be applied. Any recommendations for brand/name? Obviously wouldn't want to damage paintwork.
IPA - Isopropyl alcohol (not India Pale Ale. Don't use that or drink the Isopropyl). http://cpc.farnell.com/servisol/100...0W1bfNQqpgTO4N2qUvs1VN_QetqHtAbcaAoy6EALw_wcB Used to be able to buy it off the shelf in Maplins. Very useful for cleaning electrical contacts and electronic items too.
These: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/2635436069...1007266&device=c&campaignid=1058609970&crdt=0 If you want a few I can post you some - have hundreds as they are part of my cable kits
Ipa definitely, most digital or litho print suppliers will probably have a smallish bottle, or 20ltr tub
I use these. Good for cleaning your phone etc as well. https://www.aldi.co.uk/eyewear-glasses-cleaning-wipes/p/059842012856700
@bradders I’ve used this very product as the final clean prior to applying ventureshield to several bikes / applying ceramic coatings with no issues. It’s always been anywhere between £9 - £10 in Maplin which I guess is a nod to its current troubles.
Thanks everyone, I’ll see what I can get locally before I resort to te internet. Wilko is normally a decent place for stuff like this
So, is contact cleaner te same kind of thing/possible substitute? I have some of that but never really looked. Btw I blame @rob lewis as it’s his fault I’ve now started cleaning stuff properly
Personally wouldn't use IPA...as its bloody harsh....Get some Gyeon Prep buddy ....from www.polishedbliss.co.uk
Not sure. I know I've never had any problems with IPA on any surface and its excellent for cleaning contacts and tricky to get at multi-pin connectors etc. An aerosol of IPA has sorted many a dodgy connection, especially my work power tools which get very dirty, and it's handy to keep a can on the shelf. You can actually use brake cleaner on paintwork. Sounds aggressive but its not. Steve form Conquest Carbon has applied a couple of Venture shield kits for me because I haven't the knack for that sort of thing, and that's what he used to clean the paintwork. The result was flawless and it had no effect on the paint finish whatsoever. It was only a thin wipe over with some paper roll, mind you, the stuff wasn't hosed on. I also clean chains with it.
I Nick some alcohol wipes from work. They’re 70% alcohol and 4% chlorhexidine. So I get a sterile surface as well just for the hell of it.
You could use liquid lighter fuel. Sounds bizarre but does work lots of jewellers use it for cleaning watch movements and jewellery. I've used it for preparing before applying the clear paint protection products with good results
