Do I need help?

  1. Well washed the bike today, ready to put her to bed for a few months with some sdc100 that I forgot I had. Its the first time I've used it and I have to say it's fugging awesome!:upyeah:

So the bikes sat there looking all nice and clean and then.......... out came the metal polish! I can't stop! Anything thats not painted could end up becoming shiney. At least the mrs is woring today so I can sit in the garage and buff away.
Its a good job I go away on Friday or I think the wife would get severely peeved off.

To help feed this addiction whats the best way of getting my exhaust to a mirror shine, and whats the best polish to use. I'm just using some of the crap I can get throught the army at the moment(cause its free!)

  2. addictive isn't it.

I found on the headers a little solvol and scotchbright take the discolouring out and then buff with just solvol and a rag.

The tail of the cans comes up with just polish.

  3. For a mirror polish you need some hardware - namely polishing mops and something to run them in, a reasonably powerful electric drill is OK and, above all plenty of 'elbow grease'.

I use an old drill press as it is powerful enough to polish hard without stalling and I find it easier to move pipes around the mop rather than take a mop to the pipes.

Be warned though it is a long and messy job but the results are (IMO) worth it.

    Here's one I did earlier:

Once polished they won't go too bad again plus they will discolour nicely due to the heat and restoring the shine is easy.

  4. You obviously need to feed your addiction, and despite your shame I am willing to help.

Come round to my place and start on the downpipes, well see how your treatment progresses from there.

  5. Take it with you and get some Afghani kids to polish it up for you. £1 an hour should cover it :D

  6. I have the same addiction....

  7. I wouldn't trust them not to nick it and use it as some sort of improvised mortar! Or am I not allowed to say that?

Ok course I trust them completely!

  9. A damn good polish...

"Barkeeper's Friend" - wonderful stuff - it will put a shine on anything...

  10. Solvol and tons of elbow grease. I need to do the 1098S this weekend on Sunday... Time to crack open the drill!!!

Previously did the 748's with just elbow grease, took me 3 days in total!
