Hi everyone. I am looking at changing my steering head bearings on the 959 for a steeper head angle for faster turn in. Does anyone know the part numbers for these parts please. TIA.
There are 38 different combinations of bearing cups to vary the steering head angle. The simplest way of quickening your steering is to raise the rear ride height by lengthening the adjustable rear shock absorber rod length. You don't want to raise the rear ride height more than about 5mm so with a 2:1 linkage, lengthen the rod about 2mm to start. Andy
I could do this but want to keep the bike level as supplied and I had heard of the alternative bearing seats.
Unfotunately I’m not at work now for a couple of weeks so cannot ask anyone. Our race bike builder refers to a chart but I have no idea if it’s something you can download or something he has put together himself. The part numbers will clearly be on the parts ordering system but I don’t think that it is an intelligent list. Again the person I would ask about that is on holiday this and next week. The recommendation to use the adjustment in the shock absorber rod came from the race team and is much simpler and less time consuming job. Easier to make a small adjustment, ride the bike to assess the change and adjust again if wanted. Andy
If you could try and remember to ask your colleagues on your return to work I would very much appreciate it.
Hi there. I wonder if you could remember to ask about the bearing seats. A copy of the spec sheet and angles would be such a great help. Sporting regards Graham Molyneux
All very well changing a rake angle, but by the geometry change on its own you are losing trail, which is far more important that the rake angle..take a 998 with the adjustable rake head 24.5 and 23.5 by altering to the steeper angle you lose 6mm of trail to quite a dangerous low amount on a ducati. can i suggest you google trail and read what it is first before you just change the rake angle? if you are intent on altering the rake alone then to regain the trail you need to fit offset yokes there is no coincidence that with say a 998 the trail you lose at the steeper head angle is regained going from the std offset yokes 36mm to 30mm offset
