Hi all, My biting point for the clutch on my 848 is very close to the grips. With the lever pulled all the way in, i only have to let it out about 5mm and it is at the biting point. Any advice on how to give the lever a bit more play and the biting point 'further out'? Thanks
There is a reach adjuster on the lever (the are usually seized) but it sounds to me like it needs bled.
Bleed the clutch. There is also a plunger that is adjustable in the lever with a very tiny allen key, but bleed the clutch first before opening that can of worms. If you extend the plunger too much, you might end up with a clutch that's always slightly disengaged.
Yeah, fresh fluid and blead it through are first things to do for sure, then you can look at adjustments.
Mine did this when I had lever adjusted too close, when input it on rear axle stand drag was evident as wheel spun with enthusiasm clutch pulled fully in. I just adjusted it out....... Should I have bled it instead?
First thing to try is span adjuster, then bleed the top of the mc as there often gets a billable there (just done my multi, do it every 1500 or so miles), then bleed clutch.
You can have the lever adjusted pretty close to the bar and still get proper lift on the clutch so that it won't drag. If you bleed the clutch, you might notice that your 'bite point' moves a lot further from the bar and you'll probably adjust your clutch lever back to where it was. Nothing wrong with what you did, but when it seems that no matter how far you adjust your lever, you still can't get it fully disengaged, the only option left is to bleed the clutch. At least on my 1098, I have to bleed the clutch pretty regularly and it takes about 5 minutes.
