hi guys. im toying with trading in my 2016 hypermotard 939sp for a 2016 multistradas pikes peak with luggage. i've been searching and I've seen that the left pannier will hold a helmet, but will it hold an arai tour x? also, the bike i'm looking at has the ohlins suspension rather than skyhook, i've been specifically been searching for this spec because i'm worried the skyhook could be too problematic, could i be missing out on something much better? i have tried a few searches on here, but not really found the answers in need in large friendly letters tat an idiot like me can understand
It is the Ohlins suspension which is problematic, in that there is a risk of needing the oil seals replacing periodically. The Skyhook, which is made by Sachs, is both superbly effective and pretty reliable. The Pikes Peak model is a device whereby Ducati induce rubes who don't know any better to pay literally thousands of pounds extra for a lower spec bike (with a strip of white paint and a sticker).
I nearly bought a new P.P last year, until i found out they don,t have skyhook any more. Total deal breaker. Forget the PP unless you are a track day man or road loony. The Skyhook is superb. Whatever the road type you are on, you can select a suitable setting in a few seconds on the fly. If you cannot find a setting you like you simply crate one in the menu. As for the colour scheme a few quid will get you the graphics to suit. As said by others above, the Ohlins are a bitch for leaking front oil seals.
Thanks for the feedback. I was put off the skyhook but now it’s back as a contender. I found another thing that may put me off. The problematic fuel level sender. I ditched my gs adventure for exactly the same thing lol. I’m planning to take out the piles peak on Saturday morning. I quite like the concept of dvt and the extra power over my 939sp. The enduro looks lovely but I think it’s just going to be too tall for my 28” inside leg to cope with.
I think I’ll spend this evening going through the Multistrada section of the forum and see if that helps me buying a bike without the full Ducati warranty. I’m open to guidance on what’s good and what’s not if anybody else has any suggestions
What's your budget @Daddy2coull, in order of preference from worst to best Single spark Twin spark 15DVT 17DVT Had a very short test ride on the 1260 and first impression was that the 1260 is the best of the bunch.
I believe that there was a revised service upgrade for that part so it should be old news by now. I never received a recall for my 2015 DVT and never had a problem either. I don't see the point of the Enduro other than to try and lure away prospective BMW GS customers. To my mind, once you have an Enduro it stops being a tall sports bike.
the fuel gauge problem being sorted makes me feel a little better. i'm considering a new 2017 pikes peak or a used 2016 pikes peak. only because those are the better deals available locally. i'm also going to see if its possible to take out a skyhook. the used bike comes with the touring pack which i believe includes panniers, centre stand and heated grips. the new bike appears to be a good discount from new. i like the safety of two years of ducati warranty on a new bike compared to the limited one year warranty of a used bike. from what i've read the used bike has a limit of £500 per defect which will soon be swallowed up
When you say a good deal, can you say what the deals are. Riders were offering a brand new 1200s for £14,000
I p/X my 15 DVT for a 16 Pikes Peak in January 2018, the bike feels much more sports like to ride. I did get JHS in Bristol to set up the suspension. My thoughts are if you ride long distance on motorways etc the Skyhook is much better. Off to North Spain next week, will see how the Pikes Peak compares to the old bike as this will be its first proper ride.
Oh well. I’ve done a deal with the devil and I’m now the owner of a 2017 pikes peak on a 2018 plate. More than happy with the deal and the trade in price for my hyper sp. just got two weeks to wait and I’ll post some pics. I’ve got a cracking wheelie bin to show off!!
