Metzler Roadtec 01

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by stretta, Apr 18, 2016.

  1. I was lucky enough to be given a set of these through the forum (thanks @Rob and Mike Alwyn at Holeshot PR) to try out.

I had them fitted a little while back, and now scrubbed them in nicely.

Initial impressions are really good - not too dissimilar to the Z8's I was just coming to the end of - so predictable turn in, not too slow, not too fast, and I haven't had the TC light come on yet (must try harder!).

I'll be posting some pictures of the wear as I reach particular milestones (nobody wants to see pictures of brand new tyres!), and am hoping they'll last as long as the Z8's did. Got a few longer trips planned over the next few months, so it'll be interesting to see how they fair.

    Watch this space!

  2. How many miles did you get out of the Z8's ?

  3. Got about 7k out of the Z8's, and most of that mileage is hard riding, maybe 30% touring.

I like to rag it on sunny day's, but it's been out in torrential rain as well, and the Z8's were really good here.

With the advances in technology, I'm sure the 01's will be better!

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  4. Just had a set fitted and ive done 1.5 miles so far!

Off to Spain in a few weeks to give them some pain.

    High hopes for the 01's.

Moved from PR4's where rear wrecked at 5k, front had perhaps another 2k left.

  5. What pressures do you use? Fitter says 42psi front, 36 rear. Metzeler website says 3.9 bar (42psi) front and rear. I love the tyres either way. Transform the bike.

  6. Fab tyres but I could only get 3300 out of the rear on mine. Mixed solo riding very little dual carriageway/motorway.

  7. From the DVT Manual (yes i know it's for the older model):

    Tubeless tyres
    Front tyre pressure:
2.50 bar (rider only) - 2.5 bar (with passenger and/or bags).
    Rear tyre pressure:
2.50 bar (rider only) - 2.9 bar (with passenger and/or bags).

I run 36psi back and front with Roadtec 01's. Bike handles quite nicely.

  8. Manuals are meaningless once you put on different tyres from the ones on the bike fitted by the factory. Always best to go with the tyre manufacturer's advice for the particular tyres you're using.

  10. Try finding recommended pressure on Continentals website. There isn't any, you just go round in circles looking. KTM will give recommended pressure for the OE tyre but that's no help if you've fitted something else. I got the Conti's pressures from industry test reviews. The manufacturer seem to be shy about giving a figure. I clicked everything on their website but couldn't find anything anywhere.

  11. These tyres are brilliant especially in the wet . I used them at cadwell park in biblical weather (water running down the hilly sections like a stream wet) and they were fantastic on a Honda sorry. I am not a quick rider but the confidence they gave me in the wet enabled me to ride as quick in the wet as i did in the dry. yes I am that slow.
I also have a set of m7rr on my other motogymkhana bike (suzuki) that gets serious hammer and you need total confidence in the front tyre they are also excellent and possibly even better than the 01's well worth a try.

  12. From the Conti website:

Motorcycle manufacturers always go into the subject of air pressure in great detail in their vehicle manuals. It is possible to find instruction on air pressure for every driving situation. In addition it is usually possible to find a sticker on the vehicle with the necessary information written on it.

The manufacturers make a distinction between load (riding solo or with a pillion passenger, with or without luggage) and speed (on secondary roads or motorways). Naturally on such a short info page it is not possible to give the necessary tyre pressure details for every motorbike and because of this we refer you to the recommendations of the motorcycle manufacturers.

This is the only manufacturer I've ever seen do this. I've found specific advice for each tyre for all the other tyres I've ever had.

  13. Just ordered at set of these in preparation for a Euro trip in June. I’m only getting 2,500 miles from M7RRs so hopefully these last the trip.
