When I go to Italy to meet up with my bike for my WDW trip I was thinking of flying in my armoured textile jacket and armoured jeans. Would that be an issue for Security do you know?
It shouldn’t be, unless the armour is metallic - in which case just explain and they’ll pat you down and let you on your way. Unless you try to conceal something on person or in luggage the security check is generally really good in Europe.
could always take the armour out if worried, what that in a case/your handluggage? Doubt they'll be too bothered tbh
All my luggage (including helmet) will be with the bike. I'm just planning to rock up with my ticket and passport.
I don't know about Security; but I doubt very much what you intend flying in will be much good - a winged suit might be the best option (or an aeroplane). Still the armour might help a little bit when you find out the clothing isn't aerodynamic.
Idve sent my riding gear too and just rocked up in jeans and t-shirt. That way i wouldnt have to ask questions
Did that last year and it was a proper fuck about getting all your gear out of the stillages and then getting togged up and putting away the clothes you arrived in. Having done it once I just want an easy life this time.
You will probably cook at the airport and on the plane wearing that - maybe the shorts and T shirt for travelling and then change when you get there is a better option? But if you want to wear all the gear - then I guess apart from the wierd looks, firm search and sweat bath you should be fine...
http://www.eurobiketrans.co.uk/ We are paying £1075 per person but that includes: Return trip for the bikes from Manchester to Prato (nr Florence) and back. Includes bike sent fully bubble wrapped on racking and all luggage/equipment in locked stillages. Coach from Pisa airport to Prato depot to pick up the bikes. Once we pick up the bikes and get togged up we ride to the hotel. And the coach takes all the luggage to the hotel (and back obviously) 5 nights B&B in a 3* hotel in Urbino and 1 night in Pisa WDW ticket (last year it included a weekend ticket to the Mugello MotoGP) Not included is: Return flights (which I think I paid £75 return) Petrol Lunch or evening meal (but you can take stuff from the breakfast for lunch if you so wish) There are 30 people on this trip and though we all go out and come back together, the riding is however you want to do it. There will be 5 or six groups doing their own thing every day. Some fast, some slow and some in-between. It really is up to you as to what you want to do and how you want to do it. EuroBikeTrans also arrange trips without hotels etc and you do your own thing or even taking your bike somewhere and you ride back to the UK in your own time. The kind of trip I'm doing suits me (and the other 29 people on the trip) as it means that we are spending more time riding good roads and not wasting 4 days just riding there and back on motorways.
I can just imagine the conversation at the airport........ "Bend over, please Mr El T" "How the f*** do you expect me to bend over in this lot?" "Take the trouser off please Mr El T" "OK" "What is this in your groin, Mr El T?" "It's a box" "A box of nuts"
I am booked in the Hotel Piero Della Francesca *** in Urbino for three nights 19-22 July. I'll be on my Multistrada. Might see you there. * Now added a fourth night, so 19-23 July.
