  1. That's a magnificent looking motorcycle Bazzer.
I have a soft spot for them as it was my first bike, thrashed it mercilessly for most of its life, and fell off it several times a week. Cost me £10 and was delivered to me in Sussex from London.

  2. Cost me a little more than that.

  4. I don't think they were used for letters but instead the old telegraph boys, remember telegraphs?

  6. Beyond your stated budget, but it’s worth saving up for a commando. Spares backup is second to none (you can build a new bike from new spares these days!) and the performance is more than adequate for modern roads, which is more than can be said for many old brits.
I also have a soft spot for bsa, but the commando really was the pinnacle of period Brit bikes (ducks and runs for cover)

  7. A pristine 850 Commando, a 600 SS featherbed and a modern low miles, three or four year old Commando Sport 961 are all around the same money - 10 grand.

There's a daydreamer's dilemma. it's not going to happen but it's nice to think about. For me it would come down between the SS and the 961. The Dommie is motorcycling royalty and a gold-plated investment. The 961 you could actually ride...
