Brake upgrade...?

  1. Took my scary beast out for its inaugural run out today. It's a 1098 cunningly disguised as a 'umble 748. Shhhhhhhhh....:wink:

    One thing is clear it would benefit from a brake upgrade!

    What are my options?

    I guess I can put on some 848 calipers and forks? What else would I need ? Ts?

    Are there better calipers that would fit on my existing forks?

    Better pads? Which ones?

    Many thanks.

    Edit - Just realised there's a a bin in the pic...:biggrin:

  2. SPS brakes are 4 pad, but not sure if the fixing bolt spacing is the same. I reckon they are the best non radial brakes you can get if you want to keep the sleeper look. If you upgrade the forks then the sky would be the limit with radial choice. I wouldnt use adaptor plates for radials as its a poor engineering solution

  3. I've got 1198 Ohlins forks with Brembo HP calipers on my 916 - that'll definitely do the job;

    However on a different budget I got Brembo radial mounts for some 916 forks with Brembo M4 Monoblock calipers on my Monster, yet to try them out but I'm not expecting them to disappoint;

  4. id go for a 1098 ohlins front end........with radial brakes etc etc or the p4 34 998 callipers at least...

  5. That's interesting...Where did you get the radial mounts from?

    Cheers.

  6. Cheers, I did ebay, but not international.

    All a bit expensive for me right now.
    I'll explore P4's first I think.

  7. P4 calipers Brembo M/C and some performance friction pads, job done

  8. As Jon says, Performance Friction 07 compound pads, or SBS Dual Carbon pads......the 40mm mounting bolt spacers wont allow you to mound P4 calipers, so either a later set of forks or change the fork bottoms...I have a set of Showa 999 bottoms in my workshop......they'd prob fit.....

  9. 'Fraid not, I bought some Motocorse radial mounts for 999 forks as I was told they should fit 916 forks but they don't - the hole in the bottom that the adjuster goes through is too big, luckily I could take them back and got the Brembo mounts instead.

  10. I'd go for a 19mm master cylinder and some decent pads first. Yep, the calipers could do with an upgrade, the m/cyl route will give an immediate improvement and can stay with the bike as and when you go for calipers. There were quite a few Brembo racing calipers that used the 40mm mounts pre radial mount. Less exoctic now so can be had for decent money ;)

  11. A 19x18 radial master cylinder is the one I'd plump for......

  12. Accossato?

  13. Hi Gary,

    Have you thought....ohlins forks for the evo, then stick the radial showa forks on the cross breed. A little more expensive but it a win win for improving both bikes in one go, better forks and bling on the evo and you have more options for calipers and better forks on the other....

    Rather than just spending a small fortune on the heinz 57

  14. "Cross breed" how very dare you...!!! :eek: Hmmmm - It's a thought, going to get expensive!
    Something else to consider though...:upyeah:

  15. Ooops Hybrid I ment...

    Yeah expensive, but the radial fork bottoms are stupid money for a start and you know you really want Ohlins on the 848!

    Anth

  16. TBH I'm not sure which bike I'll end up with as I don't really want to keep both.
    Once the "hybrid" is finished of proper with its nice new fairings and I've had the opportunity to ride her properly (actually I think I'm the one that will get ridden) I'll have to decide :frown:

  17. Wash your mouth out Nelson.......IRC of course.....
