  4. Bike all back together, just over 100 miles and shes running sweet.
Also cleaned out the swingarm axle mount and sealed the hole to prevent any more dirt getting in.
My 1000 mile countdown for oil change has just started, can the the service be reset now or does it have to be when it's actually due?
If it can be changed, does anyone know of anywhere near Reading to get it done?

  5. Any "autopsy" to add to this job?. Control fork return spring is often blamed and is nearly always the cause to be fair, but the way yours had jammed was unusual, would be good to know if there was more to the story, i.e. was the spring even broken?.

  7. Sorry, I thought I had aired my findings.......

Once I got the flywheel off I could see that absolutely nothing was broken!
I replaced all the components that I had purchased anyway as I was in there.

the issue was self inflicted believe it or not - I don't know if it's just me (I had back surgery a few years ago and have some slight nerve damage) I struggle to change up gears so I adjust my levers down to alleviate this. Whilst in France earlier in the year, I was going round a roundabout (2up with luggage) and the lever struck the road, the friction dragged on the lever, flipping it 180 degrees, (luckily it didnt change gear on me) I was unaware until I exited roundabout and went to change up -there was no lever! I pulled over, the lever was 180 degrees out. I undid the linkage and flipped it and put it back together. Everything was fine, back to the ferry, back home. the incident happened on the next ride out.

When I rebuilt the mechanism, I set the fork up as per the manual ensuring the position was spot on, this is when I realised what had happened. the force of the lever being flipped had forced the linkage to the maximum adjustment position (which I still cannot fathom how it did this without changing gear/locking the box & killing us!) being at this position plus the little bit of free play allowed the mech to jam between a selector drum pin and gear or something behind the flywheel (sorry don't remember exactly what)
the 2x bolts hold the mechanism in place, the holes the bolts go through (in item 5 parts pic) are elongated to enable the adjustment to the mechanism.

I would still like to try different footpegs to see if moving them up will help me as finding false neutrals upshifting is quite boring.... made even more so by the wife saying "pick a gear, any gear" every time

I have also had stiffer springs fitted front & back and since then, I've never got my centre stand touching down so I may be able to adjust it (slightly) lower again.

  8. Thanks, makes more sense now, hence my first post on this thread.. :upyeah: I did similar when knocked off a (Cagiva) Elefant but managed to limp home, gear change claw was distorted slightly.
