749 Track Appearance

  1. its been a while since ive posted on here which is very bad of me. anyway as usual im after your advise on my 749 which im taking to anglessey next weekend. when I bought the bike about a year ago it was always reading high on the voltage meter about 15.1/15.2 but as Ive done a 1000 miles on it without if exploding into pieces as a good yorkshire man ive done bugger all about it. as im taking it on its first track outing ive stripped off the rear number plate hanger and indicators. I was very slightly concerned that now the rear light is not being used will there be any negative effect on the slightly higher battery charging rate. im only asking this as I know the charging rate usually drops by 0.1 when i apply the brake using the brake light electrons. nothing to worry about or look up simon westons plastic surgeon?

  4. Removing the rear light won't effect the charging rate of your system. That is controlled by the regulator, which if the display is indicating 15v might be faulty.
You might not have noticed any negative repercussions YET, but it's probably putting a higher voltage into the battery which might result in a shorter battery life.

  5. Ok thanks for the replies. No doubt I will need to get the regulator checked and assume replaced. I’ve noticed it stops flashing and drops to 14.9v when I press main beam so might tape button down for next weeks track day just as a temporary fix or maybe not.

  6. ive spunked real cash on a mosfet r/r from the good old us of a. arrived today. will fit it this weekend and report back on this hot topic of conversation...

  7. No, removing the light makes no difference.

  8. yes been to the track day sans lights and didnt end in a ball of flames either due to the dodgy reg/rec or my very poor motorcycling skills. angle by the sea is a beautiful track but i was very scared ted.

  9. @El Toro seems his keyboard is worse than mine :astonished:

If you mean Anglesey, it’s a fab track and in one of the most beautiful spots I’ve been too. Hoping to be there for a race weekend in a few fees, not racing just drinking beer and taking the piss out of those that are ;) sorry, I mean helping those that are ;)

  10. Fitted the mosfet regulator and while the dash has stopped flashing it still seems quite high at 14.7-14.9v charging rate. I’ll just buy some nomex undies what’s the worst that can happen?

  11. Disconnect one of the three yellow output wires from the generator...
if you are not using lights or add on heated grips etc it’ll reduce that charging rate.... and give you a few more horses
