I'm going to consider fitting a lighter tank to my 899 after the summer. Maybe an 1199 alloy one with the 1199 subframe. During my research I found this picture of an early MotoRapido BSB bike which I think was the 1199. Its tank looks very different. It seems the fairing actually bolts onto it. Probably no good for a street bike setup, but I'm intrigued by its design. What tank is it? Factory made race tank?
That is a Panigale RS tank, Pierobon WSBK. Designed more like the V4's, to keep the weight low. I have seen one for sale at 2000 euro. For low weight & looks i think you should go carbon. At least,i will..
Good knowledge yelworc. Found some good pictures of it now. It's similar to the motocorse tank but with a better shape. It's keeps the same lines as the standard tank, but looks a little longer. The motocorse tank is a bit too chunky and ruins the lines in my opinion. I wonder if the rs tank can be used with stock components ie ignition key, standard subframe and lights etc.
You can't mount the rs tank without a lot of work. Its also very difficult to find the older parts. Pierobon has the last subframe to suit up to f15 tank at 1600 euro as i asked when i was there for friends, All the electrical side components need moving. All the tail section is different and a complete tank set up is a nightmare to find. Also you'd need the fairings and nose cone to suit.. Stick to the 1199 alloy tank
The tank will not give you much of a weight saving anyways, it’s he sub frame where the real gains are to be had. Go in for a CF subframe and you’ll probably get rid of a lot of the heat issues as well. The 1199 alloy subframe soaks up a lot more heat than the 899 steel one.
So, the 1199 subframe is lighter, but retains more heat. I do like the FullSix Carbon subframe as it incorporates the tail unit as well.
There was a guy on the Ducati US forum selling one used for $800 or so. ducatiforum.com user “jarelj” he owns a Ducati showroom “Ducati Omaha” http://ducatiforum.com/classifieds/30621-899-1199-one-piece-carbon-race-tail.html
