This is a Metzeler and a Supercorsa from the DUK day at Silverstone today. The Metzeler has chunks out of it. I guess 214bhp is more than they can cope with?
I saw one on the back of a trailer heading north on the M1 earlier about 3.30-4pm, presumably just finished at Silverstone
Along with 215 others today lol Doesn’t take a lot of miles after the indicator is worn on the rear, like 100 maybe, before you are into carcass on a SC
Had a similar experience myself today at Silverstone on my 1299s,Brand new Bridgestone R11 delaminated rear after 4 sessions. Going to complain and get refund.
The rear felt funny so came in and then saw the tyre and thought shit. Shades of Nakano at Mugello came to mind.
yeah was there when the guy that owned them said they were from a high speed run on the autobahn..........dont know why he didn't throw them... i thought the new track surface was an improvement over the previous for tyre wear...maybe doing the sighting laps this time at a proper pace helped.
Blimey! The Metzeler takes the term 'cold tearing' to a new level. It looks brand spanking new. Certainly looks like a manufacturing process error. Pretty darn dangerous I'd say. Is the Supercorsa an OE tyre? Might change over to KR108's before I head for a trackday on the V4. Yikes! Nice catch though OP
I would add that the CSS V4 trackbikes were running Rosso Corsa 2s and they didn't seem to have any issues. Maybe temperature and pressures need to be spot on with 200+bhp turning the rear tyre? More and more riders seem to be relying on electronics to keep them safe firing out of corners which is all well and good but maybe the tyres need to be running the correct temperatures and pressures?
Having rented an 899 from them a couple of years ago, I can say that they have all the aids turned up and power down in every configuration. And they check the screen just as you go out to make sure you haven’t changed anything (I did, they changed it back!) Owners may have had full power will little aids turned on...
That might explain why I kept firing past an S1000RR hire bike at Almeria last year. And there was me thinking I was shit hot..... bugger
The rear felt funny so came in and then saw the tyre and thought shit. Shades of Nakano at Mugello came to mind. My Bridgestone were brand new and running correct temperatures, next time I stick with SC.
I’d say its the circuit surface thats very abrasive, as its now happened on several bikes - V4S, 1299 and an R1 Look at this pic of an R1 instructors rear tyre from silverstone, posted my 44teeth http://44teeth.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/r1_tyre.jpg
