It's a strange business model really, bmw have replaced parts on my other bike during its warranty period without question. Use better materials & give value for mullah ducati! I've yet to broach the subject of the two items JH_1986 has indicated. Which really are the main annoyances' swing-arm & rear race exhaust slip on part. Glad I got an extended 4year warranty & will be sorting the other bits this summer at my local paint-shop in banbury.
Bloody hell not sure your bike will last 6 years. Think you need to use a bit more ACF50 during the winter months. Interesting post thanks for sharing.
I'm not sure whether I'd be taking it as well as you are but fair play. Ultimately I think its just another example that Ducati build, fit and finish quality is appalling at times and they should be ashamed of themselves
Yeah I would literally be commiting suicide! 2yrs old? Some of those parts look more 20yrs old. I have had stuff run in salt water (boats, jetskis etc) that's lasted better than that. You need to be making some noise.
Mine is two years old, 7800 miles, about 300 winter miles in there, washed more than a baby with the runs, yet the cat, rear end, heads, engine guards look like it’s been used by nick Saunders for a trip.
Thanks for sharing, shocking and insightful. Interesting you’ve had another bike to benchmark and the Ducati seems to be significantly worse, I’m genuinely surprised, although reading the other comments I shouldn’t be! They seem to do a great job in the initial presentation of their products but struggle with longevity when used in the real world. Your bike is a bloody Enduro - with a name like that it should be lapping up what you’ve put it through. Personally I would be furious and looking to get the swing arm and exhaust replaced at the very least. Good luck.
It’s not like they don’t know what materials to use to make things last, problem is that would affect their margins and I just don’t think they care that much. You hadn’t yet upload the rearset pics when I commented but those are absolutely shocking too! Of all the bikes I’ve had, ignoring the mechanical failures and just focusing on finish, my multi was by far the worst. 1 year of ownership and the engine casing paint was bubbling up like the elephant man’s face. In every area it just looked like some tatty old shed of a bike best appreciated from afar. My 848 wasn’t actually as bad but still suffered worse than either KTM, Yamaha & Kawasaki.
At 18 months old, my Multistrada was in worse state than my my ST4s was after a decade. So Ducati has definitely gone backwards - I'm inclined to blame a combination of the shift to water-based finishes and Audi accountants.
Not really the point, it’s a Multistrada Enduro not a Desmosedici. I’m definitely in the market for a Streetfighter if they bring one out and seeing things like this really put me off. I ride for pleasure throughout the year and don’t want my bike turning to cheese after some rain and salt.
I'm struggling to see how any of this is remotely acceptable, unless you've bathed it regularly in salt water or certain degreasing agents. It just reinforces that Ducati manufacturing isn't really that good, it's all just marketing and showrooms. They rely on the way people get heavily invested in the brand, similar to that of apple, and no matter what happens some will always side with the idealistic notion of 'soul, character and lifestyle' Unfortunately you have to look through that and see things for what they are, premium prices charged for sub par products. Here's ducati's own statements on the Multistrada Enduro: The wild side of Ducati Redefine the concept of adventure through a concept of excellence in performance and technology. The Multistrada 1200 Enduro expands your travelling range: Ducati Testastretta DVT engine, 152 hp, 30-litre tank, front 19” rim, spoked wheels and 200 mm travel wheel. You can live the Ducati technology, performance and comfort at any distance and under any condition for an adventure without limits. The first Ducati created to take you anywhere. Born to travel and to be unstoppable on any type of terrain, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro is able to withstand the stress of off-road riding, but also to take you on any road you want. A real globetrotter, just like you. Indeed Look I like some ducati bikes, I've owned a fair few, but they ain't getting any better, and if anything they're increasing prices whilst decreasing quality. It's a piss take
Yes your paying top dolled for a so called quality product only to have it rot away as the miles go by ..... to say I'd be pissed is a understatement I'd be firing off good and propper and putting my finding all over the net if they will not replace what's needed!
I don't feel it's just Ducati but it hurts more when they are not the cheapest. I've ridden through winters before commuting on a 15 year old blackbird and none of the corrosion you've shown in key areas so it does make me wonder, are the manufacturers now keeping costs down knowing the majority of bikes are not all year round bikes? I know I'll probably get rid of fugley soon, a chap is interested in it and I'll probably go back to £2,500 bikes made in a time when quality kept them going for years
I got several parts on my BMW replaced due to excessive corrosion. One part being the swing arm. Anyway you mentioned the salt, it’s killing everything on the road, I’m sure the underneath of cars look like rust buckets. Like you I use the bike all year, 20k in about 3 years, no issues during the summer, but after each winter, it’s just shows more wear, but that is definitely down to salted roads. It’s military grade salt, terrible stuff. I go through cans of acf50 and wash the salt off, but it’s a losing battle. Unfortunately people like bikes to be clean with no mention of corrosion but it’s actually my transport and I need to use it.
