  1. With some great help on here i have purchased a duke project in the shape of a 600ss.

Traveled down and picked up the gear this morning.

But ive ran into my first problem with the chasis number, i had checked the reg number on a check with no V5 available and looked clean. I found the number and scraped the paint away to see the number but it seems to be too long? ive tried inputting the code but ran out of characters?????

Ive found some info regarding 17 digits for american Vins, what is it for uk and do i need to input all the digits for the check?

Ive got 7 digits then * and six digits and * with finally 10 digits.

Ive got a bad feeling about this frame now.

  2. welcome to project land! :)

  3. My V5 and MOT only show six numbers, nothing else......no engine number either........but I know the engine is original because I checked with Ducati Italy......

....Send an email with the full number to Stefan at [email protected], he might help you.......

  4. Here's an example of a Ducati frame stamping

that was found using Google (ie I'm not posting info that is not already out there)

    ZDM916S*001537*DGM536190M

ZDM916S*001537* would be the frame number or as above (depends what was submitted to DVLA by the registering dealer)

The number of characters match your description

  5. Thats similar to mine, but ran out of characters, i tried in putting part of the number but its been declared a Yamaha and stolen???? doh

I get the the ZDM and referring to ducati etc. Maybe the site isnt prepared for long ducati frame numbers?

  6. In the early 80's VIN's on motorcycles adopted the 17 digit system that is the standard to date. Don't know when Ducati adopted it for Europe but prior to that they used 13 digits. However, dealers sometimes only submitted the 6 digit number to DVLA on registration.

  7. The similarities are there between the example and mine with some parts the same probably due to be in UK etc.

  8. Done, cheers for that.

  17. Who have i actually contacted with this email?

I got a phone call today regarding the VIN number, after i realised what was going on we had a chat and guess what, i had given too many characters!!!!??????:frown: Apparently it was too long? i am well confused what ive actually got now.

Im going to send another email with a pic of the number ive taken.

I know ive taken abit of a chance and its my own fault if its nicked but the number looks fine and untampered to me.

Im going to send of for the V5 this week with the details ive got.

  18. just making sure, but where is this number located on the bike?

  19. Its on the right hand side of the stearing head.

  20. ok, so that's in the right place. There's no other sticker on the frame with a vin number?
