1260 Final Drive - Chain And Sprockets On 1260

  1. I like my new bike :upyeah: - it is not a question. But my decision is: i would like to modify the final drive on my 1260 (sorry, i don't like the factory final drive on this bike, the gears are "too long" and need too much sliding the clutch when start...:confused:)
    But unfortunately i don't have enough information. Anybody changed front or rear sprocket on 1260? I know the chain type (size) 530 - but i don't know how many links? (i know - i can count :p ) I know the final sprocket ratio is 15 tooth front and 40 rear - but i don't know are sprockets same as on 1200 DVT? Or maybe different type?
    First of all i am thinking - i will change the front sprocket to 14 tooth (one tooth less). I readed lot of comments in this theme for 1200 and 1200 DVT - but not too much for 1260.
    If anybody have any experience and information in this theme for Multi 1260 - please share it :) Thanks for help!
     
  2. I’m pretty sure the 1260 is the same spec as the 1200. I’ve fitted a Supersprox 42t rear, it’s transformed the bike. Far more useable.

    I also tried a 14t front, but found it a bit too much.

  5. I know the standard chain ok for 14/40 and for 15/42, but what you think - is the starndard chain will ok for 15/43 too?
     
  6. I think you would struggle with a 43t rear on the standard chain. It’s a tight fit with 42 so you’ll probably need a slightly longer one.
     
  7. Many of us in the US take the front sprocket down one tooth. Makes a difference and is cheaper. 18000 miles now and no wear problems, stock chain fits of course. (Dvt).

  8. I changed the rear sprocket on my DVT to 42T. No need to change the chain. It made an amazing difference - much smoother around town, faster pickup in 6th on the motorway, better acceleration everywhere. I used a Supersprox sprocket.

  9. tobers, I can see how the 42T could improve things. I find with my 1260 at motorway speeds the bike doesn't feel that happy, 5th feels better. I'm assuming from what you say that the 42T might improve the feeling in 6th as well as the pickup?

  12. Ok we are two - who want to to change the final ratio of 1260 :upyeah: (and we will be more - i am sure). There is only one question: the chain sprockets are same like on 1200DVT, or maybe different... And if different - is it maybe same like on other modell - if yes which one? Or maybe we need to wait for long time... :confused:
    (I'm a little disappointed because the Ducati trade system in ruins, for several months it is not possible to buy accessories and spare parts just a few of them and very slow... Sadden... I bought my bike half year ago and i can't see any accessories for this modell on Ducati official website... i know, the Ducati stock is moving - but i think it is not normal solution...)
     
  13. This is anecdotal I know, but I'd put that plan on hold. Personally, I find the longer gearing to be fine and has been that way since day one. It pulls in top like a train from 2K rpm all the way to the red zone. That said, I'm just about to hit 4000 miles and I'm finding that my 1260 is just getting noticeably smoother and pulling far more eagerly. It's particularly noticeable in the top two gears.

    I don't know what your mileage is but much like my DVT before I'm finding that both engine and gearbox are improving significantly as the miles go. I honestly believe that even after the break-in period is complete the engine and gearbox aren't "optimal" until over 4000 miles. After 1500 miles you might be safe to thrash it but the job isn't done at that point, not by a long way.

  14. 42t with standard chain is ok, but notice that seat height will be about an inch taller as you have to bring the wheel forward (more towards 6 o’clock) to get the tension. I changed te chain on mine, added two links and it’s back to standard again.

  15. Interesting points Rainman and bradders and points taken. I am at nearly 2000 miles and everything is noticeably getting smoother, and if as RM says it continues getting smoother I won't rush to change. Also I don't want to raise the seat height so I will hang on at least until I'm ready to change the chain/sprockets due to wear. If I still feel the need to change I will do it then. Great advice.   16. Finally solved!
    The front sprocket on 1260 is same like 1200 DVT (just rubberized). So i bought Afam T14 and changed them. With original (uncutted) chain to remove the front sprocket not too easy, but not impossible. You need lot of "play" and patience (and need to remove the clutch slave cilinder too...)
    And the difference? Just a really short test, but the bike much better - for me [​IMG]:) - much less vibration and dashboard shaking, better acceleration, less clutch sliding needed when start... So i am happy [​IMG]

  17. That OEM sprocket, I have never seen anything like that before
    It couldn't possibly be rubber through the main body of the sprocket (how long would that last), so I'm guessing its simply a rubber insert on the side of the steel sprocket for noise suppression ?? any ideas ??
    Could you take a picture of the other side please
     
  18. Yes, this is "silent" sprocket. https://www.ognibenechaintech.com/en/prodotti/6/ingranaggi-OE.html On many road bike you can find similar "rubberized" front sprocket... (on my 1290 superduke too...)

    I realise your 1290 superduke and the 1260 are two different styles of bike, but could you give us a bit of a comparison
    I ask as the 1290 gt was high on my list before I finally ordered a 1260
