Just had my renewal quote from DI. 2017 Multi 1200 S .....£620 fully comp with breakdown cover :0 good grief :0 What everyone else paying ?
I have. I phoned DI up to ask why so it was so dear . They couldn’t give a toss basically, so I’ve gone with Hastings Direct. £200 cheaper
just tried to insure all my bikes through DI . they telling me that they can not insure bikes valued over 20k unless bike track is fitted . even thou they are on SORN any advise? doesnt sounds right ? anyone else had this problem?
Try Footman James laid up policies - they should cost less than £100 per £10k value. Last one I got this year was about £125 for £15k value. I think they have an option for 'collections' on the auto dial too but not investigated that yet.
*replaces cap on tube of anusol* *pulls trousers up* I've just been on the phone to DI, renewing my insurance. Always a pleasure, never too sore.
Shopped around in march still finished up at Carole Nash when you take into account the breakdown cover that's included price wasn't to bad
DI was way WAY too expensive compared to others. They said it was because of my job (cameraman), WTF?? even though I only wanted insurance for Social use. I wont use my bike for work, and certainly wont carry any camera gear on it, but they weren't interested. Strangely enough, the quick quote online came up at £217 which wasn't bad, but then I called to follow it up and that's when they wanted another £300 odd quid cos I'm a cameraman. Good way to turn business down me thinks. Stuart
DI quotes are always a minimum of 3 times the price of elsewhere. 848 SF, 8 years no claims, no points/claims, age 59.Garaged, Alarmed etc They wanted £196, got it for £66 after £20 cashback with no voluntary excess.
Not always, they were the cheapest for me at £245 Full Comp for a 1098R, Protected NC and a second bike (R1) They (the underwriters) couldn't handle a 1971 350cc Yam though to add to the policy and wanted as much for that as the 1098R so I went on a separate classic policy for that...
They are good for special models, sometimes the only company that will touch Desmo’s etc. When I had my 749R no other company would insure one apart from them.
I've recently changed from Hastings direct to Bikesure, because Hastings will only insure two bikes. I have put my Thruxton R as main bike 1500mls ltd a year, added the hyperstrada 5000mls ltd a year and VFR400R 1500mls ltd a year all in for around £250 incl helmet and leathers cover. Another bike to be added around Aug time ltd to 1500mls a year. All in all should give me enough mileage to play around with.
Most insurance underwriters start at 3000 miles as the first / lowest charge - don't give mileage away for nothing, always best to check as the broker will charge a fee if you up it later
I'll be fine with that, I work away for 6 months of the year so just under 10k for six months riding is fine for me. I might tailor the mileage on the bikes next year if I feel I want to do more on one of the bikes, probably the TTR.
Apologies if I've missed an existing thread on this. I've been with Ramasis/Wicked Quotes, trading as Ducati Insurance, for quite a few years. When I bought Secundus last year, they were happy to add it to my existing policy so I had a multi-bike multi-rider policy (both the other half and I were insured to ride both my 696s). My insurance is due for renewal in September and I received a letter badged purely "Wicked Quotes" (no specific Ducati reference). When I spoke to them today they said that Equity Red Star (the underwriters) were no longer offering bike insurance, and the alternative underwriters won't offer multi-bike multi-rider policies. They can quote for a multi bike policy that only covers me, but not the other half, or 2 policies, one for each bike, which would cover both me & the other half. But I could only use my NCB for one of those 2 policies :-( Ramasis/Wicked Quotes are no longer "Ducati Insurance". Looks like Ducati have ditched them in favour of linking with Adrian Flux. See https://www.ducati.com/gb/en/news/new-ducati-insurance-partner Am waiting to hear back from Adrian Flux as to whether they can do a multi-bike multi rider policy, but when I told their call centre quotes person what I'd paid last year, her reaction suggests I'll be paying a lot more through them.
I had a similar experience with my insurance with Ramasis when my insurance expired in April. I called the new “Ducati Insurance” Adrian Flux to be told they’d call me back with a quote, they never did. After trying Adrian Flux several more times and receiving the same treatment, I went with another more customer orientated provider.
Go Skippy but true I just use it as a track bike now and keep it in a very tea leaf unfriendly location. The insurance is just a back up in case of the worst.
