Category A: scrap only. For vehicles so badly damaged, there are few or no salvageable parts. Should never re-appear on road. Category B: body shell/Frame should be crushed. Signifies extensive damage, although some parts are salvageable. Should never re-appear on road. Category C: the vehicle is repairable but the costs exceed the vehicle’s value. Can re-appear on road. Category D: the vehicle is repairable but repair costs are significant compared to the vehicle value. Can re-appear on road.
Thank you Chris. But it's legal to sell A Cat motorcycle in the shop calling it "Perfectly working"? They even didn't uploaded photos of dent on the website. Ok, if this would be a "bargain in the dark alley with some suspicious guy", but it's a shop. If I wouldn't ask here, I would have bought a scrap which is dangerous to life. Don't get it.
No, nothing at all from a cat A bike can be sold, by law it must be crushed complete. Cat B bikes cannot be put back on the road or sold as complete bikes from a dealer without declaring it, if you tried to do so with the same vin number registration would be denied. Even a private seller is legally required to declare if a vehicle has been a write off when selling, even if it was cat C or D (provided they know about it)
The reference to insurance is that somewhere an insurance company may have written this bike off. By shipping the bike to another country all history of this is lost. Walk away from this bike.
Indeed, it would take a significant impact to bend a steel trellis frame tube like that, considerably more than would dent an alloy frame.
Hello guys, found this 696 in Germany, 2010 year with 21k km. Seller wants 5,3k EUR for it, imported from Italy. The problem is, that i can't check it live, because i will pay a company, who importing cars/bikes from Europe countries. What you can say from photos? Take or not take? That one's been down the road. Wrong mirrors, scuffs to engine casing, footrest hanger, riders pegs have been changed, tanks got wrong decals on it (probably been repainted), looks like teh sidestand has been welded up.....hasn't got original indicators either. At the money they're asking over in Europe for bikes like that, i'm starting to think my 696 was a bargain
The first one has been in a big accident by the look of that dent, that would've taken some force to do that! The other one has also been crashed, but at least they've shown the damage, but have they shown all of it?
