Hi everyone, just joined the forum (not sure why I didn't years ago) so just saying hello. After spending a glorious holiday on a rented ST3 in New Zealand a few years back, loved it so much so I got myself a low mileage ST3 - red of course- a couple of years ago. It developed a fuel leak last year and on inspection turned out to have rusted through at the back bottom seam. Having searched for replacement tank for some time I've not found anything decent so looking for options. My tank is pretty pristine apart from the obvious hole so would have it repaired if possible. If anyone has had the same issue would like to hear. Happy to chat about ST3 in general too or meet with fellow ST3 owners!
To the original poster. If you're going to get the tank welded, drain it and fill with water to purge out all flammable liquid and gas, fill and drain a couple of times to be sure, you can also continue to purge with nitrogen or steam once this is done. Just ensure its fully dry before refilling with fuel.
You can not be sure a vehicles exhaust has no combustibles in it as you don't know that the vehicle is 100% efficient in its burn process. This is not a good way. Water will only be in it for a very short time, so unless you have access to an N2 supply, it's the way I would recommend. We purge out large vessels daily, and I don't recall ever using exhaust gas, but have used water, steam and nitrogen quite alot.
Dude, you seem to think it is in petrol stations ??. I however would purge it from an N2 bottle as I suspect the OP does not have an N2 hard line at his house (hence use water) . As for the experience, I'm currently sat in an oil refinery, and what your describing is what I do, but thanks for making me giggle.
You can get N2 at any petrol station - bloke on't tinternet said so must be true. Why has the Wayne broken into an oil refinery, can he be trusted in there, does he smoke Lithium E-Cigs
Nice back peddle but you added the nudge and wink when you realised you were being a donkey. Nice try Einstein
