What Do You Guys Wear In Hot Summer Days?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Oli, Jun 12, 2018.

  1. I have a nice set of Dainese Ducati 2 piece leathers, but I find it very uncomfortable during hot summer rides... Should I wear something underneath? What do you wear in a Summer... Should I try jeans?

  2. is this question based around a UK hot summer day (singular)? Problem rarely arises.......

Those vests which you can wet with water and wear seem to have a bit of a following

  3. A gay storm trooper at that.
Does that come with arseless chaps? o_O

  7. I wear a base layer under my leathers ot my textile suit, and don't experience much discomfort in our climate.

  8. A few people have said if you wear leathers in summer, a "technical" base layer top and trousers means they're easier to get on and off, rather than having to be peeled out of them. I haven't tried these base layers (only winter merino) but take some convincing that anything synthetic could be other than disgustingly stinky and sweaty.

Previous WDW trips I've gone for my leather jacket and Draggins.

This year I've bought a mesh jacket.

I've heard good things about the Rokkertech single layer jeans (https://www.motolegends.com/trousers/rokker-rokkertech-slim-jean.html) Unlike most aramid/denim jeans (Draggins, Hood, Bullit etc), the aramid abrasion resistant fabric is woven into the thread so that they're a lot cooler than conventional aramid lined jeans (especially the more protective ones with the full lining rather than bum, hip & knee aramid patches). The price is a bit salty though - am debating whether to splurge for WDW 2018. I think Knox now make single layer aramid denim jeans as well.

  9. Love them tan lines Jez :upyeah:

  10. I got Dainese sport textiles for this summer. Good airflow, light and armoured. So far very happy.

  11. Wow, thank you guys... Was reading Kevlar Jeans topic meanwhile, very helpful... I had negative experience with jeans actually, got them used on eBay for my bike licence course, and went with mate to ride his trial bike - new very little about biking at that time... and didn't really had any appropriate clothing either. Anyway, long story short, went into a tree and jeans didn't protected much my shin, just below knee. I know, they were not really intended for trial bike riding, but both my leathers have that area protected... I guess I'll stick to leather for now, might experiment with base layers, might help.

  12. Synthetics are what you want when hot. They don't hold onto the smell like Cotton and Wool (Merino excepted) Think running & gym gear... You wan't to avoid cotton as much as possible!

I wear a wicking and well ventilated base layer top and bottom under leathers when it's hot. It seems counter intuitive to layer up but the key to staying cool is getting air to your skin, to help with sweat evaporation. Sticky leather is shit for this obviously... some jackets have decent liners that help but I've never worn a pair of trousers that don't get sweaty.

You can spend as much on technical base layers as leathers if you're not careful but I've found cheap Sondico stuff from Sports Direct is actually pretty decent. Wear their long sleeve tops for riding, football, running and snowboarding. Feel less sweaty and on a multi day trip, they don't honk the next morning.

  13. ...cotton is evil...

Base layers synthetics in summer merino in winter or get decent textile gear. I run a Spidi mesh jacket and either Revit or Spidi mesh trousers.

  14. Touratech Companero inner suit is good up to 40 degC.

  15. I wear a set of Rukka outlast kit, seems to work well

  16. Wear a pair of light jeans and a t shirt mate. You'll be reet, just remember not to fall off. Just wear what you like :)

  17. I can't really see that working very well unless it's under textiles or leathers. All that Gaylord string will just get pulled out of position by the armour. Then as you laid incapacitated on the road side, you'd probably get bummed to death by passing bummers. It's a no from me

  18. My EDZ under-suits seem to last forever and make for easy on and off of leathers.

  19. 100# Merino all year round

When very hot abroad I wear an Alpine Stars cooling vest that you charge with water - never find it hot enough in uk to use though
