1200 DVT Modes - A Confession

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by gc6269, Jun 14, 2018.

  1. DVT - Pikes Peak, I've had the bike for two years now and being perfectly honest, yesterday was the first time I have ridden in anything other than Sport.

And guess what, in touring mode I have found a bike that is generally easier to ride quickly. Power (as you know) is the same, but the throttle response is smoother and way better at low speeds. Can't say I'm happy about having the word touring on my dashboard, because I'm not touring!

What surprised me was the response from the bike on and off the throttle. In low speed corners the transition was miles better and a lot more conducive to making 'good progress'.

Am I the only one to discover the joys of Touring mode?!

  2. I mainly live in touring mode, going into sport for more spirited rides on nicer roads.

  5. Same for me and, if I'm a big town going through traffic then urban mode.

  6. I use routinely use Urban, Touring and Sport, for the purposes that each describes, but engine mode is modified for full power in all of them. I want consistency in throttle operation all the time. Suspension, traction control, etc, are all things which should be situational and varied to suit a given operating environment, but throttle response and power is non-negotiable. Not having a consistent throttle response almost has the potential to be dangerous, IMO.

  7. Rarely use sport.

  8. Always had mine in touring. Plenty responsive enough and a bit of play on bumpy roads on Sunday blasts.

  9. Had to use sport the other week as the stand was grounding out everywhere so needed a bit more support. But that’s all I use it for.

  10. I’ve only got the basic.

  12. I suppose the reason for posting was to point out that I feel the Touring option is actually better than sport for mixed fast riding.

Every road I ride on has a mixed set of corners, so Touring feels a better option than Sport for these kinds of roads. Sport seems to be geared towards dumping a load of fuel on initial throttle openings, leading to a level of 'jerkiness(!)' and the same applies to coming off the throttle. It feels less like a switch in Touring mode.

Mine went in for a service yesterday and as I said it was the first time I'd ridden it in anything other than Sport. I was thinking of upgrading to the 1260, but my 'discovery' of Touring has kept me on the bike for another year.

I thought I'd get a lot of flack for not changing the modes, so fair play to you all!!!

  15. Tbh the only thing I’ve done to the suspenders since I’ve had it is drop the yokes down about 10mm ish and add a bit more preload due to a medical condition I have regarding pies kebabs and red wine.

  17. Me too I don't rev the balls off the bike the Multistrada has more than enough power to allow you to ride like this
Last time I used sports mode was on the N240 road to Pamplona

  19. I mainly ride in Touring mode and switch to Sport when 'in the mood'. Softer throttle response and a smoother ride - happy days! I put in in Urban mode going through town the other day, which made for a nice relaxed ride but I rarely use Urban.

  20. I thought it was a skool, I turned up everyday to a group of people when I was young
