Evening, After the 999 went pop last year, I've been sans bike since. Lots of umming and a-ing and nearly bought an RSV4 twice.... Anyhoo, ended up putting a deposit on an 1199... pics are on their way on the 14th, but looking forward to a return to the fold.. I was always struggling to find something else that pushed my buttons, (and we'll not talk about nearly buying a brand new GSXR1000)..
Well, finally here today. Apologies for the lack of a bin, but I may upgrade and outshine you all by having it next to a skip later in the week. First impression, awesome. Not enough miles to give a measured review and you probably don’t care anyway as it’s now old tech. A few nice touches that I didn’t know. It’s got a full Termi system and a set of Samco hoses. Might need to change the pads as it’s feels a little wooden compared to the 999. Once I understand all the buttons I’m sure I’ll sort it out. Very snatchy on the throttle at certain speeds and lots of clutch feathering, but I’m used to that. I’ll bore the tits off you all later in the week with my amateur findings.
Looks nice, the rim tape isn't for me but each tho their own! The bike looks tidy. Don't worry about the bins, you managed to get two Vauxhalls in the shot so that's close enough ;-) haha
Welcome back. Some nice touches on the bike - carbon front mudguard, bar ends, fuel cap, tinted screen, carbon heel guards, carbon clutch protector and race seat from what I can see. Not sure about the stretch marks on the seat though!
how do! You will get used to the throttle, its only 1/4 turn, so there isnt much you can do! (including wheelieing the thing). Make sure its got the 'racing evo' map (it says 1199 or racing or racing evo) when you turn the ignition on. Keep the battery charged, take some preload off the back, set the sags, and enjoy
Could fit the £25 throttle spacers to take up the sloppiness in the throttle? Oh...brakes shouldn’t be wooden. Those M50 Brembos are some of the best in the business. Has it got a standard front brake m/c on it?
Yes, I’m going to get that off and see if I can tighten it up. Rear carbon higher and exhaust shield too and key guard. And ventureshield.
It does have the Racing Evo map, so all good. Took me a bit of time to work out the screen and buttons. Had the full beam on that I couldn’t flick off, so don’t know what I’m doing there yet, but I’ve taken the Ducati stickers off under the 1199 and turned the R&G decal on the front sliders to underneath. Apart from that, I’m going to take it up to Eddie’s at ERS to set up the suspension for me. I’ve got two alarm fobs, but neither of them seem to do anything, so I don’t know if it’s been disabled or not.
I’ll have a look later, brakes on the 999 had just been done and I thought were very good, so maybe just a case of getting used to them.
The brakes are solid, but should stop you easily with one finger. The main beam is a bit dumb, you press the whole beam flasher button down to toggle between high and low. Seat ripples are quite normal on the race seat. They put too much weight on my wrists as they are higher, so I stuck with the standard 1299 suedette seat. Evotech rad guards are well worth having
Ripples - Not had one in mine in the 4 years I’ve used it on my track 1199. And I’ve been hung off the bike a lot in that time so the sides have had a fair degree of punishment. No worn material either. Thought it had stood up pretty well. Looks like I bought the lucky one!
Had the seat off tonight. It only needs the staples taken off and stitched down a little tighter. Shouldn’t be too much trouble.
