British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Or doing away with borders altogether. The world over.

The western world is a declining population. It needs younger people who will work. It needs immigration to survive.

  3. Maybe people are simply deciding to not have children as young and not to have as many as previous generations.

Maybe people are happy not living in over population, maybe they prefer some space.

The problem with the ever chasing of economic growth is that it requires more and more people, that effects quality of life.

Moving masses of people from one country to another does nothing for the destination country other than churn the economic wheels, maybe those people don't want that.

  4. Damn, I thought you lived on deep fried Mars bars, Irn Bru and Tennents! I missed out when I was working up there!!

  5. You still cannot get away from the fact that without enough working people, a country cannot function and an ageing population is very expensive to maintain.

  6. There are other issues, the UK does not have a manufacturing economy. Germany, the powerhouse of Europe does. Merkel took a risk with the 1 million, who she hoped would strengthen their economy.

  7. Have a read of this and then some of the scathing comments

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jun/19/europe-progressive-far-right-eu-liberal

Yet another finger pointing exercise from a judgemental liberal, someone who is so completely convinced she is right that she can't even begin to understand the reasons for the 'far right' uprising within the EU, bearing in mind that that's not really what's happening, but of course everyone is far right if you don't agree with a liberal.

Bigoted and blinkered, full of hypocrisy, it's a Guardian classic. Democracy is an on off switch with this lot.

  8. Democracy is an on off switch with most groups. There is a danger though at the moment that we do not pass control from one extreme to another.Btw cant stand Liberal lefties.

  9. Well, I might be reading it wrong.. but it reads as though internet companies having to take responsibility for content. No more excuses for videos of be headings, 'we didnt know the content was bad', 'you need to notify us of bad content'. That kind of thing.
In the same way that news papers cannot print just anything, so its still free press. Just not 'anything goes' as Google, Facebook etc have been taking the piss.

  10. the main part seems to be about publishing rights, the important bit I think, what I said before.

  11. Maybe some of that is the intention, and about time too

But the two elements discussed in depth seems to suggest that they're regarding payments to news publishers whenever something is linked to Google news, therefore they won't link and website traffic will reduce thus affecting those publishers far more than gaining payment (see below)

Two points have proved controversial among internet luminaries and some lawmakers — article 11 or the so-called neighbouring right for press publishers which could force Google, Microsoft and others to pay publishers for showing news snippets.

Similar laws introduced by Spain and Germany in the past resulted in Google News quitting Spain while Germany’s biggest news publisher Axel Springer (SPRGn.DE) had to scrap a bid to block Google from running news snippets from its newspapers following a plunge in traffic.

    Then there's this bit

Article 13 or mandatory upload filtering would require online platforms such as YouTube, GitHub, Instagram and eBay (EBAY.O) to install filters to prevent users from uploading copyrighted materials or seek licences to display content.

Critics say this could mean the end for internet memes where ordinary internet users riff on other people’s photos, music or video while others fear it could become a tool to control and spy on users.

Green lawmaker at the European Parliament Julia Reda said the Commission’s proposal would only benefit large media companies.

“The intentions may be good but the methods to address the issue are catastrophic and will hurt the people they want to protect,” Reda told journalists.

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales said mandatory upload filters could turn out to be more harmful than beneficial.

Filters “could create the basis for more invasive monitoring of all internet content, while new types of exclusive rights would limit the ways that people share information on the web,” Wales said.

Just sounds like another overreaction from the EU to me.
