The ignition of a single battery produces enough heat to ignite adjacent batteries. The 85 kWh battery pack weighs 1,200 lb (540 kg) and contains 7,104 lithium-ion battery cells in 16 modules wired in series (14 in the flat section and two stacked on the front). I was under the impression that Lithium doesn't burn that hot, about 1/4 the temperature of petrol in open air.... apparently something else must also be happening here. Are the side panels plastic or aluminium ?

I wonder given the cars are fully laden with electric batteries how the fire departments and recovery companies will tackle the fully electric/battery cars in the future and will there be an additional cost to those services?
I've seen two burned out Range Rovers at the side of the motorway this month... ICE cars burning just doesn't make the news often. Let's not pretend regular petrol cars don't also have their own issues with fires. Ferrari and Lambo both have a decent history of their cars spontaneously combusting under the right conditions.
The original arguement being made was that EV cars are inherently more fire prone and you make an excellent point that we’ve all been driving around in electrically powered cars for decades... So nothing new to worry about. For those that are still a bit worried...
Not a bad looking car - but whenever I have seen one it has been doing about 55mph in the middle lane of a motorway with the driver looking terrified, probably trying to figure out if they can make it to the next charging point...

I had a drive in a new Tesla today in Leamington Spa - very rapid! Went 1 mile and the range went down by 6 miles! Guy who has just bought it says range is 300 miles - he gets 150 miles. It takes 24 hours to charge it at home on a 3 pin plug or an hour fast charge at a special charging point at a local supermarket to 80% then the rate slows for the final 20%. He spends 30 mins on his way home charging it at one of 20 charging points - but thinks soon they will all be taken when he goes as more get on the road. If he travels to one of our factories 150 miles away in Yorkshire he will / might just make it there. But the nearest fast charging point is 50 miles away in Leeds - so he would have to wait 24 hours before attempting to get home. Any traffic jams and he's fooked… Now WTF is that all about
