V4 So What Goes Wrong With Them?

  1. I have heard a few horror storys of the quickshifter playing up, and the odd oil leak but what else goes wrong with these new V4's? I understand fully that it's an whole new model and all bikes have their problems, but there's something worrying about splashing out on a £24k bike and then thinking i'd made a huge mistake.
I test rode the V4 back in April and loved it but I still have that niggling doubt.

  2. buy the base v4 , only niggle I had before the first service was finding false neutrals. That got sorted with updates etc in the service. At the mo its running perfect. Im using full power now and its riding better and better.

  6. This is why I ask, I'm tempted by the Aprilia and the £5k saving but the Aprilia's aren't without thier issues and I've heard so many horror storys about the poor factory support

  7. After spending close to £25k would you be happy with that? I wouldn't

  8. I've had several Aprillia and not had any issues plus the V4 is a known quantity and any issues are out there with the Ducati the paying customers seem to be doing the R&D
Feel sorry for anyone who's bought on a PCP deal if the bike is spending at lot of time of the road

  9. Funny you should say that, My mate bought a new 1200r Monster last October. He's only just run it in and had the 600m service and found out that the fork leg had no rebound adjustment. A warranty claim to Ducati ensued with the bike off the road for 3 weeks. Fast forward 2 weeks to yesterday when the bike threw the ABS light on, another trip to the dealer to plug the bike in and found out that the ABS pump has failed. We go on our touring trip to Spain today, so as you can imagine matey was very pissed off with them.
Well I'm off here now till i get on the ferry tonight. :)

  13. I dont know why people continue with the old myth. I've had three Panigales now and the ownership experience has been no different to my BMW. I think they are more prone to bolts and stuff falling out due to the vibrations and the quick shift going kaputt is a definite problem area but otherwise mine was thrashed for two years and had very few issues. I did 6000 track miles on the Panigale 1199S and it never failed me, I did replace a few sensors and things such as a speed sensor on the front wheel that i broke the wire on taking tyre warmers on and off constantly but thats about it I think. My 1199R has been much the same in the couple years I've had it.

  14. Shiny thing syndrome, couldn't resist the R. The first one I had had some bad history that I only discovered later and I swapped it in for a new 2014 model. Maybe I should add the 2012 Panigale had some definite issues so I guess it will be the same with the V4 but none of them were serious, just poor mapping, etc. Blame the yanks for the plastic covers that came on the later Panigales!

  17. +1. Same story for me. It has to go back to the dealer for the 621mile service anyway, so any niggles are easily rectified.

  18. The only new super bike I've not heard of any big problems is the gsxr .

    3k service intervals.
    Ergos imo.
    80’s tracksuit paint scheme.
Having to carry the compulsory BBW as a pillion.

  20. Agreed, I’ve had no issues with mine, except not being able to ride it as much as I’d like, oh, and it’s terrible for commuting on. On that nice morning where you think shall I take the bike to work, if it involves a lot of slow filtering I’d just leave it at home.
