I get the OPs point regarding wanting to get the right item for a decent price. I paid out £17 for a set of the screws and spacers that hold the topbox rack in place when I failed to sufficiently loctite the first set. That's pretty expensive for 4 screws and spacers.
Here is the 8 quid screw I thought the OP was about but realise its probably a different one which is located here under the rear wheel...... yeah its filthy but my commute involves farm crap laden roads every day, i'll clean it next week Here is the screw which costs less that the OP is probably actually on about Which located her where the Allen key points along with 2 others Happy Now?
Ive lost screws from the rear hugger and crud catcher before. Found out I'd stripped the threads in the swing arm which is why they'd worked their way loose. Replacing them is an expensive hobby so I'd be sure the threads are sound.
Finally got round to buying some replacement screws in my local dealer on Saturday. If I remember correctly they were about £2 each if you include the nylon washer. So not the end of the world, as someone who replied to the original thread kindly pointed out. Ironically I also need one of the smaller screws that holds the side panel on, so will be after one of those now too...
It might not cost 8 pounds but I can tell you the bloody screw cost $8 in Australia! I don't care if your an engineer or a rocket scientist...... $8 or 8 pounds.....either way is a f-ing rip off!!
I lost the bottom screw from the crud catcher again last week (the 8 quid one that keff said isnt 8 quid but he was talking about a different one ) ..... its now been rethreaded and replaced with a non Ducati longer bolt
From the Stein Dinse website; The hugger screws are €2.50 each and the mudcatcher screws are €9.20 for the 2 at the top and €10.20 for the one below. So for £8 I'd say he got off quite lightly.
Found thread stripped on the swing arm for the lower “screw” for the so called crud catcher. Anyone else had this problem and if so how did you get around it ? I wouldn’t say tapping a new thread is a strong point of mine unfortunately I’ve had the catcher off loads of times without a problem , but had bike in recently for a service and it must have happened then. Not happy
Not done the crud catcher but managed to strip the thread on two of the screws holding the hugger. Must say I was a bit nervous about tapping the threads but managed it okay with a cheap set off Flea-bay
