V4 So What Goes Wrong With Them?

  1. Personal opinion I think the Brera is one of the best looking cars ever built a work of art
    The V6 engine is amazing

  2. I have to agree - I am on my 4th Ducati track/race bike and 7th overall. Not a day's issues. However, my V4 has been giving more trouble than all the rest combined and it is only 2 months old :(

Took the bike to the track for a Sunday stroll after getting it back from the dealers after two weeks to sort EM light issue – some debris got stuck in the exhaust flapper valve!!!

Anyway, after about 10 minutes into the first session, the bike behaved strangely on corner entry – jerking and shunting forward when the throttle was fully closed and even though braking. The quickshifter stopped working intermittently, but came back eventually.

Feeling almost like the auto-blip is out of sync, with the down-shift being quite harsh, I re-calibrated the tyres to see if this would make any difference.

Next session was fine for 1 lap, and then same thing – a shuddering shunt into the corner – and again - no quickshifter this time for the whole session. Also, at the settings menu in the right bottom corner, an error would be displayed in red next to the DQS option.

I then unplugged and re-plugged QS connector a few times, disconnected battery to reset ECU, changed tyres and re-calibrated again, but the problem would re-occur within the first lap, only disappearing upon ignition switched off for a few minutes and switched on again.

I ended up riding old-school using the clutch the rest of the day. Bike is going in for a third time tomorrow

  3. I think it’s gen 1 issues that Ducati have. Gen 1 848 had rad issues. Gen 1 1098 had engine issues. Gen 1 multi had rad, dash & engine issues.

Most get sorted so wait for gen 2. The only one that I’m amazed is still going on is the bloody fuel senders. What iteration are they on now?

  4. Very old rsv4 factory owner here.....the oldest....59 plate. Owned it since 2k on the clock....now at 14k. One GPS sensor failed in the garage 2 years ago at the second hand princely sum of 25 quid (came from a dorso), and rocker covers leaking (didn't stop me using it though)...that's it....the rest has been Spunked on upgrades. Just completed another TT tour...

  5. The bikes been great so far, it in for the 1st service now. I rode the 1299 and the Tuono this weekend, the v4 has the best quickshifter of all of them. That being said I fully expect issues with a first gen bike.
It was great to ride the 1299 at pace again, proper fun.

  6. A friend of mine has done a few UK track days already on his Speciale and he’s over in Brno doing one right now. He’s raving about how good it is.

  7. Learnt my lesson with 1st Gen models.with Honda in the 70s with the CX 500 and VF750 illI buy a V4 next year when the problems have been sorted till then it's the Aprillia V4

  8. I'm not sure if the Speciale has any upgrades done to it other than the full exhaust and removal of the smog crap over here. All I can say is the bloody runs like a scaled cat, no issues so far. I'm loving it so far.

  9. Looking at all the Facebook posts, the biggest problem with them seems to be owners spending vast amounts of cash on pointless and tasteless bling for their bike, rather than riding the fecking thing.

I bet there will be a mass of these up for sale in two years time with next to no miles on them once the next big thing comes out.
