Great article in Performace Bikes with a Rutter doing 123mph average around the TT on a V4 Panigale ! There’s loads of stuff covering setup which is really interesting and reminded me of the 1199R when I first got it and how t needed changing. Stick settings were quite unstable and looks the same with the V4 ( discussed on another thread). A bit of tweaking to improve the reat support and he got another 4mph average which is quite a jump. I’d forgot I had this exact problem with the R when I first got it so nice to know the V4 can be tuned in a similar manner.
He was at Donny on Thursday on it. What’s the suspension settings thread? Be a good place to start as I need to tweak mine as it’s bit lively when I’m pushing it!
We were chatting about the stability of the V4 on the one of the other threads. I found the 1199S was pretty friendly and didn't really need much tweaking but the R was quite rowdy and unstable when I first started riding it hard on track. Making the rear a bit more supportive like they talk about in this article for the V4 really transformed the bike. I dont understand why Ducati don't do it as standard but perhaps its because it would feel too hard and unforgiving for people who are not riding so fast?
May anybody throw in the suspension settings mentioned there to help the bike stabilize? I'm getting a bit frustrated with the suspension at the rear to be honest... Thank you in advance.
I dont know the menus on the V4 but the magazine article says they 'increase the support during corner exit, acceleration and mid corner to maximum at the rear, and to a lesser degree at the front'. They give Rutters settings as follows, presumably these are what the bike sets when you use the nice diagrams?? Worth noting that they are at the extreme settings so most normal humans will probably not need it so stiff. It's a 13 page article analysing the data so well worth buying. They do an online version as well. : Dynamic mode ( -5 <> +5 ) ..........................Stock .....lap 2 123mph Forks ..................0............+3 Rear Shock .........+2...........+5 Steering Damper...0............+5 Acceleration.........+2..........+5 Mid-corner............0............+3
Thank you! Wow - I did not expect that. Especially with the IOM roads being quite bumpy. Then again at these speeds the applied forces to the suspension are much higher, hence they increased damping. Acceleration and midcorner are only adjustable in race mode, and I have not tried different settings myself. Rutters setting at 100kph on bumpy backroads will most likely kick me off the bike, but I will try it out for fun. ;-) Actually I hoped they were able to alter the algorithms of the electronic suspension (with a hidden feature?) with a laptop connected, or something. Then again: it’s a superbike and not a GS - so who am I to complain about it’s harshness at the rear suspension on backroads, lol!
