"Jason" Bateman? What was I thinking? I've had a nap and feel better now - true story. Your review picks out in the book the parts that I find most fascinating about the film. the satiric treatment of the sterile, glossy materialism that summarised the 80's - greed is good, style over content and it's-not-what-you-know, it's what (or who) you wear. Nice review by the way Definitely going to get the book soon. On topic: I have a Longines watch of some sort.
I must read the book I love the film! off topic but for that 80s vibe and a dam good film is Manhunter the original film not crap Red Dragon film. much more like Thomas Harris's books watches must be a man thing!! I hate them , I break them , wash up in them and kill them . I know these posh ones are all singing and dancing but .. All those dials and stuff would annoy me . I just want to know the time :/ some are nice .. Some look cluttered .
Motorbikes and watches, 2 of my biggest passions. Here's one I wore earlier My other beater an Omega Seamaster 300
That's quite odd. I always thought that Panerai were Italian. I like them, but naturally as a Swiss now, I can't reasonably lust after any watch that isn't Swiss. It would be like living in Bordeaux and having a major liking for Chianti.
They are Italian, from Florence, used as a divers watch before WW2 by the Italian Navy, now favoured by better paid Italian divers in the penalty box.
Yeah, popped into the local dealer as only had it a year n they said bring it back in another 2 so will do that.
Yeah, 25 years in the Corps. Those Rolex G10's were pilfered by the Seniors when I was a Sapper, by the time I got to Cpl, the watch was a non Rolex model!
The "Swiss Made" on the dial is confusing me. Seems they can't have it both ways. They are either Italian, or they are Made in Switzerland. What would Ducati be if they said "Made in Switzerland" on their motorbikes? I know: reliable.
Well are Toyaota, Nissan and Honda Japanese or British as they are made here? I think of them as Japanese. Same applies to Panerai, made in Switzerland HQ and started in Florence.
The watch I would like and have been trying to source is an original ww1 German pilots watch. Many many fakes but very very difficult to get a good original.
