"We got spat at [by fans], they tried to knock us off scooters going from the motor homes to the pits," he told the Telegraph. "We had a lack of respect from a lot of people around the sport and I didn't like the direction it was taking." I get the whole team thing, but this is ridiculous. He sounds like Gollum.
Casey was, in my mind, the most honest and the most forthright man in the paddock. He called it as he saw it, that always upsets people. No political speak for him. It was mainly his accent that annoyed people, not what he actually said, more how he delivered it. A good rider, the equal (on track) of any, including Rossi. He'd done what he wanted to do and done enough of it. At 27 he has a long future in whatever he wants to do and good luck to him. I can guarantee that everybody on this forum would want to be in his position.
Stoner always seems to be within spitting distance of a lack of respect, doesn't he. I wonder why that is...
I took "we" to mean him plus others, eg Pedrosa. Considering he was another who would get booed by Rossi fans. Donnington comes to mind. No one got anything to criticise about his Marco comments? Or is criticism of those taboo? Or is he correct there?
As always you have not mentioned the fact that stoner Called british race fans a bunch of arseholes before the race weekend via the main stream press. He sowed the seed;-)
749er do you think if Pedrosa got spat on he would stay quiet, he is like little princess he would go in to a fit of anger the least. What does make me wonder is it is always Stoner. Sorry he might have been outspoken but surely the least one other rider at one time or another would complain about same thing. Either from current or retired riders. It is an odd situation where apparently everyone got a bad treatment like he did but no one ever talks, honestly not even after few beers or when proper pissed off. Not even Crutchlow?
If we draw an analogy between the things wrong in MotoGP in 2012 and the things wrong in F1 in the 1960's where you might argue that the drivers were just pawns and many drivers died and within months it was as if nothing had happened. How was it addressed by the multiple F1 champion at the time?
This is all very old ground. Very old. But for the record, don't put me in the Stoner=Moaner camp. I've got nothing against him at all and he is a superlatively entertaining rider. Yet his continual use of "we" for "I" out of context is really annoying and does put me in mind of Gollum (probably due to Lord of the Rings refs on other threads). Viz: "After 16 laps the tyres went off, and we started sliding around, so we backed it off a bit to get it home". Unless he's a robot on remote controlled bike, this sort of language just sounds false and ridiculous.
Well Stoner stayed quiet until he left the sport. So why not? Fact is we don't know what happened to whom and how often so we can't make any real judgements. The crazy thing about Rossis fans bad behaviour in booing Lorenzo, Stoner Pedrosa is that Rossi rarely has a bad race. Lets ignore the Ducati farce for now. At Donnington 2006 Pedrosa was a rookie and he destroyed the field. He was awesome. Rossi too was awesome. He qualified about 15th and ended up on or near the podium while riding injured. Yet his fans behave like animals, and you lot condone it. At that time Stoner was riding for Gresini and barely said a word. So Rossi fans bad behaviour pre dates Stoner saying what he thinks.. They behave so badly in fact, that Rossi had to say something about it to distance himself from it. Still, all you guys who think spitting on people is socially acceptable, just let everyone you know how you feel and wait for the saliva shower that will be coming your way every time you piss some one off. Funny how Spies, Edwards, Crutchlow, Lorenzo etc all think Stoner is a great guy
Stoner will last about 2 races in V8 racing i reckon. If he thinks Motogp was bad, i suspect he has seen nothing yet.
749er I do not want to resurrect the old bickering. I agree about general Rossi fans but they are like football fans so should come as no surprise My point I want to show is Casey left, he was faced with something he does not like. Tried or not to change it but left with problem being left as it was. Now he is gone he still moans about it. Who is the one holding on? Yes we do not know what others are saying but in a world where there is major tv coverage (might not be F1 scale but still big) I can not believe no one slipped something in front of the camera except Casey. Also Spies, Edwards, Lorenzo, Crutchlow say he is a great guy but it is the same people who do not speak out about same problems Casey does. Hmm either Them or Casey are not truthful in front of camera ....
And by the way, 749er, what makes you mention Rossi? This has to do with some domestic car race, what has Rossi to do with that? Or are you just as bigotted as the people you're calling bigots..?
