1260 New Corbin Seat

  1. Can you get it without the diamond stitching? I'm a believer in function over form but only to a point, and for me the diamond stitching crosses that line between the two.

    The standard seat isn't uncomfortable enough to sacrifice the form offered as standard. I've ridden to Germany and back covering 2000 miles in 4 days and whilst it did leave me with a slightly wooden-butt at the end of the trip it wasn't bad enough for me to start looking too closely at comfort seats. For my daily 40-minute-each-way commute the standard seat is just fine, but I can feel a difference in the level of comfort depending on my choice of riding gear on a particular day. If I'm just wearing some Kevlar/Aramid jeans then it's less comfortable (not uncomfortable) than if I'm wearing my full-on Rukka winter gear.
     
  2. If you are too tight (ahem pending your thoughts :D) don't forget the cheapest way to add some comfort to your arse is a decent pair of cyclists shorts with gel inserts in to take some of the edge off the soreness.
     
  3. Rainman, sure you can order them with any stitch/fabric pattern you like. The options list is enormous. Unfortunately the stock seat for me is horrific, I call it the "Taint Buster".

  4. I must be honest and say I'm still not sure about the diamond stitching myself, to the point where I may get the seat panels re-covered. As for comfort it is second to none, but they say 1500miles to break in, just like the bike! and I know that's true from a previous Corbin. I don't just get uncomfortable on the stock seat I get proper saddle sore after much more than 100 miles. As surappak say's you can have any finish you want.     I may even go for plain black. As for cycling shorts mentioned above, I tried the Moto Skivees shorts, designed for motorbikes rather than pushbikes and they just didn't work for me.

  5. In the end I found the Corbin to high for me, and I was never sure about the red stitching. So I sold it and ordered another one which is lowered by 1 inch and also made a little narrower at the front. Also went for plain black covering. Result is perfect for me and I much prefer the plain cover.

  6. I ended up getting Sargent to redo my seat, they add their foam and cover. The workmanship is not as nice as Corbin, and the foam is not as firm, but the seat is no taller than stock. It is a tad wider, but not enough to change how I reach the ground. The push into the tank is mostly eliminated. I just used it on an 8,750 mile trip, and this is the seat I am going to keep.
