The Motorcycle and The Idiot: A Marriage of Inconvenience

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by DukeXTC, Jan 5, 2013.

  1. Dear All,

I have just started writing a blog of my feeble attempts at learning how to maintain a motorcycle. I've been riding for over 30 years and can only do the very basic stuff so I've committed myself to learning by buying a 1998 Honda Transalp. You can read about my trials and tribulations (and please leave feedback) at:

    Thanks,

    Pete

  2. Don't give up the day job yet.

Actually that's quite an entertaining read.

  3. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance it isn't.
Keep plugging away at those electrics.

  4. I like it! you need some pictures and pace the posts - people like coming back for more!

  5. Part 4 of the blog is now online, please comment.

    Best wishes

  6. I am enjoying it. The link works on here but not on the UKMOC strangely

  7. I find it an interesting and entertaining read, like yourself, my practical skills are limited!

I would recommend that if you leave some info incomplete (e.g. We still don't know what bikes your joy & pride and pride & joy are), use it as a tease but provide the info in the next instalment.

Before, during and after pics are really important, and also if you could provide a "plan" for the project in terms of activities, budget and timings, then comment on what actually happens and how pitfalls arose and how you dealt with them.

Good luck with the project. I admire your approach and determination and look forward to future instalments.

  8. Well done for starting up a blog/website. I find mine to be very rewarding and therapeutic. There are several of us with sites, myself, AndyP and JerryXt, but I'm sure there are others. I'll post a link up on my site later today (not that I get a huge amount of traffic anyway) so hopefully you'll get a few more readers
    :upyeah:

  9. Mtt - just noticed on your blog that you are a Journo. Is your nickname Scoop?

    It is now.

  10. Morning El T

  11. Morning

Who do you work/report for? Do you specialise in any subjects?

PM me if you'd rather.

  12. Basically I'm a professional travel writer. Sadly not the kind who gets to follow Judith Chalmers around thou (maybe thats not so bad afterall). I write travel information for the radio, tv, newspapers etc, specialising in London etc. Socially, I write for fun, mainly for my own site, but freelance if/when I can. I've started writing stuff for the homepage on here for example and there are few things I'm working on. I put that im a journo on my site mainly for work reasons thou

  13. Stuff like "one lane of the M1 is shut"?

  14. Yep. Not exactly exciting, but it pays

    Waiting for next instalment

If this was a book I would buy it

  16. Interesting read! Running a similar engine in my Honda Bros, and it's been exceptionally reliable so far. Just coming up to 160,000km..
