Mother-in-law has rented a small house and bought a large couch. Bonus... Looks like to only way we will be able to get it in will be to take a window out. I think that this is now quite common. Any idea of what the cost might be. Comments most welcome Cheers, Bob
Well that’s a bit more of a job but doable. You’ll need a spare pair of hands and some expanding foam or silicone etc to put it back in.
Pics would help, is the house rendered ?, is the window upvc or timber, ali ? If its timber it will be a pita job to remove and replace undamaged, if it is upcv then unscrew the opening lights glazed, then if the fixed glass is obscuring fixings then that also needs to be removed also. Cost wise remember it will take longer to remove a window without damage then clean it up and refit, quicker to fit a new one with a configuration that will be able to take large objects with out taking the frame out, I would have to charge half a day for 2 men so £250 plus vat. Best bet is a window fitter that will do it out of hours for beer tokens.
My Bro would do it for £400 if you are around the Guildford area.... just the window. .. you'd have to move the sofa yourself,
If its a UPVC window, look on the net for local Everest & Safestyle window locations. Take a drive over and see if there are installers vans there either first thing or at the end of the day. If so speak to the guys. If not chat to the office staff. If you are lucky someone will be friends with the instalers and put you in touch.
Some sofas can have arms etc taken off and re assembled once in the property. If you put a sofa in that needs window removal to get it in you will also need to remove the window to get it out.
