Which 916/996?

  1. Any suggestions/opinions on which model of 916 or 996 is best. I`m looking for one as a keeper to cherish, that I would only use occasionally on sunny Sundays. Early or later model, SPS, Strada etc? Got about 6k to 8k to spend.

  2. Do you want it as a sunny day toy or as an investment as well? With that kind of money you will have quite a choice.SPS and R types are more cash,to buy and service.Later 996 bikes have 3 phase leccy.Any of them are drop dead gorgeous.

  3. 996S ...... Ohlins rear shock and the sps engine ..... Awesome and cheaper than staking out an sps or R

  4. Got to be a Strada or 916SPS-with the early Ducati font!

  5. I suppose an investment that I would ride occasionally would be ideal. I`d be interested in knowing which models you guys think would be the most desirable, and/or which year would be the most desirable to buy on my budget.

  6. That's good 998 money of course, if you wanted 916 looks with 'stretta poke.

  7. as above - if you are hooked on the 916 looks then 998 makes the most sense and is within your budget mentioned.

  8. I guess at the end of the day it's down to personal choice as to which of the 916/996 family to pick. However for me, my '98 916SPS is my keeper. For its looks for sure, but mainly for the raw way the engine feels. I can't say it would be my first choice as a daily ride, but for high days and holidays it's the one!

I've had 998s, 999s, 1098s and even a Hyper during the 13 years that I've had the SPS, but it's the SPS that's still in the garage :0)

  9. Hell yes! Original & best... :upyeah:

  10. And with anything it's always the early ones that are most desirable.

  11. Yeah, I`m thinking now that one with the old Ducati font is the way to go. If I can get a SP or SPS version with the old font it would be ideal. Better get searching.

  12. How about a 748R? More fun to ride than the others.

  13. Good point there, you could pick up a very good 02 748R for that money and have change.
The 02 has full Ohlins front and rear, The ones before that only have the Ohlins shock.

  14. I`ve never really considered a 748. But that is gorgeous, you`ve got me think now.

  15. A 748R as above, full ohlin and all the other goodies are pretty rare and ££££.

  16. There's a SP3 in the for sale section. How rare do you want :) Has to be one of the best investments in the bike world at the moment.
Don't know anything about the bike, but looks pretty genuine.

  17. There are 3 I'd go for.....an early Strada, sought after by those in the know ( alloy subframe, single seat jobbie, lighter than the later models), the early SP's as Nelly has suggested, a 916 Foggy Rep ( 996 engine ) or a 996R or 998, both of which have the Testastretta engine......no chrome flaking off the rockers........

  18. There are 4 I'd look for.....an early Strada, sought after by those in the know ( alloy subframe, single seat jobbie, lighter than the later models), the early SP's as Nelly has suggested, a 916 Foggy Rep ( 996 engine ) or a 996R or 998, both of which have the Testastretta engine......no chrome flaking off the rockers........

  19. This could be up for sale at the right money, genuine 1995 SP with good history and as good as it looks in the pics
