Supermarket Fuel

The only fuel Ive had problems with was when I put unleaded in my diesel car..........Not good!

 

Is that assertion based on anything? Or have you just made it up?

 

There was an article in practical sports bike a couple of months ago
There were 4 areas in the UK we're Esso synergy plus contain ethanol the rest of the country don't contain any
No I didn't make it up

 

I have just phoned Esso in Yorkshire & was told that the Esso Synergy Supreme 97 Does contain ethanol.. around 10%
As I am very interested in this I will phone direct to Esso Customer services tomorrow to see what they have to say

 

Been using supermarket fuel for ever,used to use it for sprinting -no probs.

 

DB,The real reason why it splutters quite a bit because he or she wants to be RED

 

All i can say is a few years back when I had my ktm 660 ( manual kick start ) the epiphany moment was she'll v power....always easier to start with that in there..

 

Has anyone else heard the rumour that some less than honest petrol stations pour Ethanol in their tanks to boost profits.

If this is true then it would apply to franchised / owner managed garages and not Supermarkets.

Given the average size of a forecourt tank and the only access being the 160mm inlet it seems pretty unlikely? Bio still has to purchased (not easily) and transported?

 

Yip I read that too and have been using it, nearest to me is about 8 mile away but on the way to Sherburn on the more boring route

If you Google the subject there's a statement from mark jankavik from Exon Mobil
Esso synergy plus unleaded does not contain ethanol except for fuel in Cornwall Devon teeside and Scotland in these areas it contains 5%

 

That wouldn't surprise me. Can someone please quickly summarize why ethanol is the anti Christ in petrol stations? Does it have corrosive potential?

Really?! Chemically?

 

It also destroys rubber seals in the fuel system in fuel taps , carbs etc basically any rubber components it comes in contact with , also if the tank has been chemically lined it's dissolves it
It's a particular problem with older cars and bikes

 

I believe in the states there was an issue with this as they tend to use ethanol more than we do?

As a 1098R owner I’m surprised you haven’t fallen foul of a swollen (plastic) fuel tank. Both the tanks mine came with have expanded to the extent they foul the steering damper mount. Ethanol is also claimed to have detergent like properties and has been known to deposit crap from within the system and deposit it in pumps and injectors over time. I now leave my 1098R between track days totally empty of fuel and have bought I brand new tank for when I decide to sell it to some lucky punter. Andy
