Ive been speaking to a few dealers, in a hunt for a low mileage or ex demo hypermotard. And I've been told this model will be discontinued. There are Only 3x new SPs in the country and only a handful of standard bikes. Seems sad but understandable, given the sales volume. The question is, when a model is discontinued does the spare parts chain dry up, or do they still produce the bits you need on back order?
My understanding is that the manufacturer is legally obligated to guarantee parts supply for 10years after the model is discontinued
Are you sure ?? Here in the US, dealers have said that they are coming sometime after aug to sometime after the new year.
unfortunately there are probably just clearing existing stocks. Doesn't appear to be anything 'new' about it and no rumours about a new bike. IMHO if you're in the market for one I'd get one while you can. They are a fantastic bike. More grin factor than any bike I've ever owned. Part of me regrets swapping to the 1200PP, but at least I'll get more use now touring
The actual legal obligation is only to supply parts for 12 months after production ends - as most make more from the sale of parts than the actual sale of the units this usually last longer. But not always
Well, as far as I can tell you from what dealers said is that nobody knows anything about Ducati bikes until the next two months or so when Ducati announces it to all dealers. As of now, in the US they are a big seller. From what one dealer told me is that the 939 would most likely continue for the next couple of years, then they might change the 939 to some other number like they have in the past. Any information on new models is just spinning your wheels at this point.. We just have to wait it out, I mean if the Dealers have no clue at the moment, how are we as consumers expected to know otherwise..
Lol coz on here the dealers are normally the last to know the truth - won’t stop them telling you Shite though

We are contractually obliged to supply the car industry for 15 years after a model line finishes - that's true of Ford and JLR at least. I thought the whole industry was 15 years at least for cars, bikes may be different.
Contractually with who - it’s def not at Ford - worked for Ford USA up to 4 years ago and a lot of parts go no longer available a lot sooner than 15 years - now working for VW same with them
You have to supply them but they don’t have to supply if not economically viable after 12 month if they decide not to - to be honest Peugeot were the worst for engine parts being NLA at 18 month
Maybe, but wasn't aware and it doesn't seem right they can get away with that with all the EU rules about
Wasn’t meaning to be smart arse and totally agree I run a number of parts sales and distribution centres and have to deal with the complaint that parts are not available to often including small things like bumpers and other body panels - it’s totally wrong
The Ducati event is in Nov, so that is when the dealers and public find out about new products and ideas.
