Mts 1200s Tyres

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Andy Mac, Feb 5, 2013.

  1. Hi All

I'm about to change my tyres on my 2010 Multistrada 1200s. I've seen the Michelin PR3's are recommended but being a total wimp I try to avoid riding in the rain. Are there any other recommendations for mainly dry weather riding?

    Cheers

  4. X2

    as above

  5. Amazing in the dry and we've all been caught in the rain and really boost your confidence. Great mileage too.

  6. They do, but you can save a few bob by getting PR2s which are even cheaper and better in the dry and only marginally worse in the wet. PR3s are basically PR2s with extra cuts in them.

  7. Im lookiing for an answer to this question too; then again perhaps I already have it.

I must confess I have had 2 sets of Scorpions and have never failed to be amazed at their capability.

The mechanic in my local Ducati dealer who I know well says he's ridden all sorts and wouldnt put anything but the Scorpions on a Multi 1200. He knows his stuff about tyres, he races a Panigale on track.

  8. To be honest I thought the scorpions were good also, their only downside for me was I got through a rear in around 3K and they're not cheap either. I was about to embark on a 3K Euro trip so given the 50/50 chance of completing it on a rear I opted for the PR3's which managed about 5K out of a rear before I got wiped out and the bike written off LOL

  9. Have PR3`s on my MTS at the moment. just got a set of BT023`s `cos i got a puncture in the rear PR3 so decided to change.
Did about 6k on the PR3`s and was initially well impressed but with about 3k under them they didn`t feel right.Probably total nonsense and summat about my state of mind! just lost a little confidence in `em. Always liked Bridgestone so gonna give them a try.
Have to say though that I really liked the Scorpion Trails. I think It`s all down to what each individual feels when riding I got the PR3`s after reading the rave reviews and to be totally honest I kinda wish I`d stuck with another set of Trails or Bridgestones.
So I`ll decide for myself in the future and live with it.

  10. So, a 3000 mile summer tour of Spain/Portugal, all in hot weather.

Id like to be convinced that there is a true road tyre that works so much better then the Scorpion for grip, refinement and mileage, but is dies it really exist?

  11. Angel ST had no issues wet or dry...........only Pirelli tyre I trust.

  12. PR2s, PR3s, BT-023s, RoadSmarts 1 and 2, Z8s, for a start. I'm glad I'd already tried my mate's Multi with SportSmarts - when I went for an official test ride from a dealer I hated the Scorpions (it was wet) and wouldn't have bought a Multi based on that experience.

  13. I'd opt for the PR3's tbh. Did 4.5K on a rear, but this was mainly in Scotland where the surfaces are harder than in Middle England.

  14. So, you guys have given me something to think about. I am picking up my MTS shortly, and looking for a suitable tyre for a trip to Morocco.

So, not only will I be doing over 4k miles, I will be on some dirt/rough roads. I went to the bike show over the weekend and I can't seem to find any alternative to the scorpion - please correct me if I am wrong.

    Any thoughts/advice?

    Thanks

  15. Yes, use the scorpion. Brilliant for the use you arem intending and unrivalled.

  16. What about the posts earlier on in this thread that talk about the life-span of the rear tire being about 3k miles?

  17. My experience is that it lasts longer. You wouldnt have much left afterwards but itll last ok i would think. Besides, you need something that works on the piste, nothing else does. The scorpon is a truly brilliany tyre, the debate is whether there is soemthing that works better for 100% tarmac use. Throw dirt in there amd it wins hands down.

  18. I've recently got a low mileage Multi Sport and am looking to replace the tyres pretty soon. Only had two rides out on it so far and found the Scorpion trails to be ok, but I'm never going off road on the bike and would prefer something road biased. Plus the rear tyre is pretty well knackered.

Local tyre guy is doing PR3's or the new Power 3's for around 230 per pair fitted but I can't decide which way to go. Also tempted by the Metzler M5's at a similar price. Regardless of how they are the Scorpions are just to bloody expensive from what i've priced locally especially if the rear is only going to last just over 2K!
