I'm thinking of renewing the battery on my 1098R. I was looking at a gel battery the other day and was impressed with the weight saving. But are they as powerful as a lead acid and will they sustain the required kepow for turning over a big compression bad boy 1098R? The guy in the shop assured me it would be fine, but he would cos he was trying to flog super duper gel batteries...
Gel batteries have been out for years . The new boy on the block is Li If you want weight saving you will not believe how light these are . I have had one on my 999R for a year now with no problems . You do need the dedicated charger though . Or you do with the 999R as they they do use power during storage. There are many brands out there but I have this .CARROT CYCLES - SHORAI LFX18L1-BS12 (18AH 12V) (CASE SIZE 1) I think there is a more powerful 21amp available now .
And now for the simple answer... The equivalent Gel battery for your 1098r will be more than sufficient. Check the price on line though before you buy as it will usually save you a quid or 2
Thanks for the replies guys. I guess thats the way to go.... 2242 do still have the 2006 999R? Keep it! I wish I could have afforded to keep mine... Ah fuggin loved that bike, boo hoo
Yeah its a keeper . In 2007 I bought a 1098 , still had my 03 999s , I had the 1098 for a full 3 months but the build quality was shite . I just didnt like it so they both went and I bought an 11 month old 1100 mile 999R . It is superb ,loads of power, and the build is quality like a Ducati should be . You pay enough for them so things like the welds and castings should be good. Rant over.
