I'm going to Scotland from 6-10 Sep, hoping to do the NC500 & some of the west. I'm looking for accommodation preferably a pub that does accommodation and food. Any recommendations? Cheers!!
You could be struggling to get accommodation at this late date. Try the Argyll or Seaforth hotels in Ullapool. I managed to get them last year at quite a good rate.
Nah! It never rains in Scotland He could also try the Weigh Inn on the edge of Thurso. It's pretty cheap and cheerful but does food on the premises or it's only a short walk into Thurso. In the north west he could try the Scourie Hotel.
If you end up near helensborough the other side of faslane navy base is a pub called the anchor inn, does food and were lovely rooms when I stayed whilst working at coulport, must confess the rooms were brand new but imagine still be tops, the front room overlooks the gaerloch (spelt wrong I guess)
You're leaving it late. Should find somewhere in big places like Thurso and Inverness. Everywhere else you may struggle, the north west coast particularly. There's always camping.. Scourie caravan park is a cracking little site, overlooks the beach and has it's own bar and cafe.
Plockton - Ive not stayed in the hotel but the food is excellent either in the restaurant or in the bar. http://www.plocktonhotel.co.uk Gairloch - The Old Inn, stayed there in July with my wife and youngest daughter when we did the west coast on the bikes. The room was better than expected, really clean spacious and bright and the food at dinner was delicious. Breakfast was ok In Ullapool The Arch Inn is probably the best for what you asked but there are plenty places to stay all within walking distance of anywhere in the town. http://www.thearchinn.co.uk Durness- Mackays in Durness have a bed and breakfast where you can get an evening meal. They also have an adjacent bunkhouse, the lazy crofter, which we normally use. The caravan site is 200yds down the road and has an really good restaurant if you're in the bunkhouse. Also the petrol station is 24hr card operated and is opposite the only shop. The craft village is a mile away along the side road its not much but can be overlooked and bypassed which is a shame. http://www.visitdurness.com https://sangosands.com https://balnakeilcraftvillage.weebly.com The Kylesku hotel also gets a good reputation but ive never stayed there although it's on my bucket list. http://www.kyleskuhotel.co.uk The Tipsy Laird in Kingussie is just off the A9. It has a bunkhouse next to the pub. The food is good bug the last time we were there the kitchen was closed. The chippy across the road is excellent. Only downside is its only on street parking and its the main road. http://www.thetipsylaird.com If you end up at Fort George or more specifically Ardersier there is a cafe called the Pace Cafe, Google maps and Facebook . Apart from good home cooked food the breakfast is huge well worth a stop if you're nearby. It's run by locals for the community. Mostly we use bunkhouses and wander into town. Heading anti clockwise our first night is the Aviemore area. From there the east coast of the NC500 and along the north to Durness is an easy day and continuing down to Ullapool is do able but its more of a push, just depends what you want to do with your time.
Don't Mackays also run the Spar shop and fuel pump just across the road? I'm sure they let you park in bike in the carpark if you're staying at their bunkhouse. Mind you the term "main road" is relative in Durness...
Malaig is nice, hotel by the harbour back of train station literally white sand up that way, amazing part of the world
