The main issue is when storing over winter, at least fill your last tank or two at the end of the season with zero ethanol fuel - and yes, motorcycling has a season
I sleep very well...not a problem ! I like "Most" petrol heads like to look after my pride and joy's...I have 4 bikes 3 modern & one classic & I treat them all the same...bad fuel [meaning that laced with ethanol] destroys them internally & especially the fuel tank & fuel lines, carbs etc ...motorcyclist & classic car / bike owners usually store their babies through the winter this is the time when you need to look after them more so than when you use them daily.
Apart from those bikes and cars with carburetors, which have many small orifices and possibly non-nitryl components, and those designed in an era when there was no ethanol in petrol, I rest my case. You worry too much. And no need for the shouty bold type; it infers I don't look after my marvelous Multistrada, and only those that follow your practices do. My bike is very well maintained, and I ride it occasionally in the winter when conditions allow. I've nothing against you or your philosophy, but I have one bike and I like to ride it as and when I can.
To me it seems like some people are being pedantic, I was under the impression most of the fuel in France and Germany contained ethanol?
I always brim my tank to over-winter and have never had any problems. The less air in the tank there is, the less evaporation you will get and the less metal is exposed in the tank, the less condensation you will get is my thinking.
I served two bikers yesterday One took his helmet off outside then came in we had a chat he was off to buy a 1000cc Kawasaki, he was impressed when I said I used to ride a ducati super sport Second guy was older on some old bike he left his full face helmet on came in couldn’t hear what I was saying I could see he was old enough and paid and left without saying a word
I’m sure there are already a few but this deserves a thread. I agree to disagree, I usually always leave my lid on. If there’s s not much of a queue I’m in the station for all of 30 seconds, don’t see the problem with leaving my lid on.
Everyone to their own I guess! I like to have a chat with the cashier, I think the main reason is that some robbers come in with the lid on so to keep the lid on may cause the cashier to feel uncomfortable! I have know some people that have worked in petrol stations and one that had been held up with someone with a lid! That person put fuel in and walked in with the lid on and then robbed them!! (Stolen bike) looked legit but wasn’t!
Pay at the pump if you can. No need to remove lid. No twat knocking your bike over . No need to interact with other humans . simples .
Some folks are in a hurry, so why should we have to remove it ?? People don't often remove sun glasses, or hats, or even burka's and they are all just as capable of robbing a gaff. Personally, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, no rhyme or reason to if I do or don't, but I like it to be my choice. As for chatting to the cashier ? Erm, no thanks, their all dumb as oxen and I can't be bothered to chew the fat with em (eh Viv )
I asked a fuel delivery guy ones if there was a difference between supermarket fuel and brand names. He said that they both came out of the same big tank. But before it get loaded in there truck with the brand fuels they add additives, wich make them a bit better. And this does not happen with supermarket fuels. So the fuels itself is the same but the additives make the differences. Henk!!!
Changed by bike’s fuel filter the other day and filled with premium. I usually get 125miles before reserve. I was travelling home and started to worry i’d broken my reserve sensor when changing the filter. 145 to reserve.
The price difference is £1.29 to £1.43 which is 10%. 125 miles to 145 miles is 16%. 1.03pence per mile or 0.98 per mile... Its better to buy the better stuff.
That's exactly what I do, and why, for some of my vehicles. For some reason, my Nissan Almera is immune to this effect. The hamster under the bonnet doesn't care one way or the other.
