Lhd Conversion!

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Whamcloud, Aug 26, 2018.

  1. Hi,

I am just in the process of registering my 1995 916 in Germany. Before I go about getting the speedo dial converted and making a reflector plate I wondered if someone might have a pair ether to sell or swap. On the speedo it is just the face I want to swap not the whole speedo, same for the headlight. Easier to post in both cases.

    Thanks

    Chris

  2. Welcome to the forum, as for the question, I'm pretty sure you can change the card on the speedo, as it is only the units you wish to change. Of course the distances will remain miles though, but you can put a Km/h card on it and at the least know how fast you are going. But to have KM in the total and trip distance, the speedo must be changed I think. :upyeah:

  3. That is true, I just want km/h so I can register it, and so I know how fast. But registering is my primary motivation.

  4. just want to change the dial face. The speedo is original and shows the correct mileage. If I change anything else then the mileage will be incorrect and it will cost more. Swapping the face is easy, getting one made is possible but I just thought I'd take the opportunity for a swap of mutual benefit.

  5. How will the calibration be wrong, when the needle is pointing at 62MPH, is it not pointing at 100KMh, and the needle will be in the same place, so as long as the speedo card has the digits in the correct place, I can't see it being an issue ??

  6. Hi,

You are correct the speedo positions are strangely different, and it turns out that the bezel is fixed. Honda speedos are so much easier to deal with it seems.

The Tuev will not accept stickers but do quite happily convert the miles to KM/H before recording it. They are strict but very fair and sensible.

So given it won't come apart I've stumbled across this. https://www.ebay.de/itm/Ducati-748-...315435&hash=item48ae15d119:g:hAoAAOSwWDBbHnmB which sorts me and gives me an easy piece of maths for the mileage.

Thanks - so if anyone wants to swap a RHD for LHD reflector I'm still open for that.

  7. I thought just that tbh, but I just compared my speedo to the one in the picture and the numbers are in different places! It could be that the gearing changes for the KM/MP odometer mean the calibration is silent different (just a theory)
