Asking a question to people who have owned a dvt or previous models I had a 1200 2010 touring S model for 4 years and loved it but traded it in for a dvt s model and just can't seem to gel with this bike and the reason is every time I push on I'm petrified of something grounding I.e running in and 1st 100 miles ground the centre stand on both sides, removed it. Now I've grounded the side stand on numerous occasions and also bottoming out and scrapping the belly pan so many times the psychological effect is becoming too much, I'm running wide for fear of bits grounding, so I'm going to have to change but the only thing that I would consider would be the enduro (gs not considered lol) so my question is how do you find the enduro as it seems a lot higher can you ride these as spirited as your previous muts? I'm going to test ride one but thought I'd ask you good people first
I had a 1200S for 7 years and now an Enduro. No problems with grounding (maybe I don't ride as hard nowadays?), but the 19" front, longer wheelbase and extra weight do make themselves felt when pushing on. In Spain recently, I found the front started to slightly wash away after 20 mins of serious twisties, albeit the temp was up in the mid 30's. It's a much slower turning bike, but for me, the Enduro suits my current needs better.
Yeah I saw that, that's why I mentioned the s, but as I mentioned I haven't had one does that that mean skyhook or s such as the earlier ones of a manual suspension?
ok might be a bit dumb here but I have adjusted front forks as recommended here and adjusted from default to hard on front, rear and rebound, but i thought the idea of the auto suspension was it adjusted on the fly so to speak
The reason why I asked for clarification is, skyhook or no sky hook, would it be possible for a previous stumpy rider to have lowered the suspension by dropping through the forks etc which might explain the grounding knight is describing ?
I think @bradders has a better grip on the suspension thing than I have @knightrider Not being personal but what's your weight, I ain't no lightweight nearly 17st, but the only time mine touched the centre stand, was when laden with panniers and I hit a pothole on a tight right hand corner going over the Black mountains, and I'm no riding god either, but there were no chicken stripes on the edge of the original scorpions.
just under 17st mate but dont think weight is the issue, ive done 2 up touring round spain fully loaded if someone can set the bike up suspension wise then point me to them
Have you set the rear preload? I am 20st, ride ok and have barely any chicken strips and only on very fast bumpy roads or where the camber is adverse do I drop the stand down. Or on track.
If you run urban mode, softest preload rear, it will ground on a bump at 60 with anything like any lean angle. On sport, high preload, it you can scratch right to the edge of tyre and be close to dragging boots and the stand doesn’t go down
Yes - I was 23 stone - with a DVT S - i never ground the stand or pegs - I do have about 1/4" of chicken strips... so no idea how you are grounding out... I always run touring mode too. Have you put tie wraps on your fork leg to see how much you use? My riding is progressively getting faster over the years... and now using ALL the fork travel on a good ride - so just upped preload a little... next step will be a little firmer on front damping. - This is despite dropping to under 18 stone now.
Also a lot has to do with your stance on the bike while riding I believe. Leaning a bit on the inside of the turn will have the bike sit up more.
